Good observations Don...

I did not paint the Radar Detector mount, but I have the Starlight Black anyway...Cherry would stand out.

I need to keep room in my pocket for the detector and GPS now...or just put them in a saddlebag when I leave the bike unattended.

No touch-screen...this is a big downside.

Matched mount to the fairing...This is a BIG upsaide...no wires...just like the detector.

I wonder if Chicago Harley has any yet!

Oh wow, I didn't notice when reading through the various specs that it didn't have a touch screen.  Having already used the 2620 while actually on the road I've got to tell you that that's a tremendous downside.  With the touchscreen you can actually use it while moving with very limited distraction.  No worse than messing with the radio after you've gotten familiar with the unit.  Without the touchscreen (and as far away as leaning to the fairing) I'm thinking you're going to have to stop whenever you want different information displayed.

It's too bad they didn't come up with a fairing mounted cradle for the 2610 / 2620 series.  Much more road friendly.  Granted, they cost more.  But do they really think that someone whose already got a touring bike isn't going to pay a little more to get something that's a lot better ?  [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

Doing something (that is already expensive) on the cheap is just silly......

i like the rechargeable no wires concept, i'd have no problem with removing it when stopped somewhere, as for no touch screen its got 9 buttons on the front it may be just as easy to use

I like the no-wires mounting also.  Though having used the touch screen that'd be a big deal (I think).  I also like the idea of being able to simply and completely remove the entire system like I can on the ball mount for the 2620 now.  With the system being discussed here the cradle/mount is always going to be on the fairing.  Probably look better or more complete with the GPS unit installed.  But there's always going to be something there.

Wonder how big the holes in the inner fairing will have to be to add the cradle?

Got a call today from my dealer, said that MOCO is offering a GPS fitted for the SEEG.  When I pick mine up tomorrow, if he has anything on it, I will post it for everyone interested.

Thanks this is some great information. But I must agree that the 26 series Garmin is the best and the 2610 is even better as you can load all maps on a 2 GB Compact Flash and use the GPS world wide just by changing out the compact flash and loading other maps onto the compact flash.

If there ever is a mount for the fairing with power and the ability to attach to the radio for speaker usage that would be awesome!

Here is the removable base...this is how HD gets you to buy their version of the Quest, this base is packed with the GPS, not the mount.

How do you find the "reach" to acess the controls?

There were pages and pages of thoughts, questions and supposed comparisons written about this before "the incident."  (well, maybe a page or so)

But it all boiled down to "very cool," "oh man, you're the first to get one,"  "Congrats," and a bit of chatter on what might be the good points and bad.  Most important thing now, however, is GET OUT THERE AND USE THAT THING SO YOU CAN TELL US ALL ABOUT IT.

C'mon Bill, it's just a little rain.  You're not gonna melt man  [smiley=laugh.gif]

Porthole's question reminded me of a couple of other things that got asked just before "The Incident."

If that base mount really is interchangeable might be a fact worth finding out.  Reasons being that, if the experience with mine is anything to go by, you might find yourself glancing at the speed display in the GPS unit more and more easily than the on speedometer itself.  Not only is it more accurate but it's more in your line of sight.  But since you're already used to glancing to your left to find speed it might be easier to get used to over there.

The other reason was actually more important though.  If the controls on the GPS are such that some functions really do prove to manageable going down the road you'd prefer to be able to do them with your left hand rather than your throttle hand.
