looks like the same unit expet its not black and doesnt have the dealers pre programmed
oh and a bout a buck-fifty cheaper
In the real world even cheaper than that. Have seen that model for $475.00 or so. Will be interesting to see if the HD branded unit has some little quirk changed on it to work with the fairing mount that is different from the Garmin branded unit.
HD added a Garmin guy to their Board of Directors less then a year ago so seeing something like this coming out isn't surprising. It does surprise me a bit they got it done this quickly (quick product development not being a Harley forte' [Garmin probably did it]).
But I like the idea.
Didn't see anywhere in the specifications if the dock was somehow lockable? Otherwise I guess you're grabbing the unit and stowing it everytime you step away from the bike for awhile?
I also wasn't impressed (but this is only in comparison to my 2620 that has EVERYTHING loaded in it all the time) that the unit offered only has enough storage so that you've got do download map data for your trip. From the descriptions offered you really don't get a good insight so as to know how much of the country you can load for practical use. Would hope it's a lot.
Do like that it's a self-recharging system while on the bike so that you can then wander off with it as portable GPS if you feel the desire or need to do so. With the speaker on the fairing mounted cradle you're also not fiddling with the aux jack on the radio if you want audio too.
If I didn't already have the 2620 and the little ball mount for the handlebar I'd probably get this thing in an instant. I'm really sold on GPS for the road trips anymore. Just way toooooo convenient not to have along. But with the little ball mount the 2620 literally comes on or off the bike in about a minute. It's worked flawlessly. It holds all the maps and other data without needing do DL from the computer. And it's screen is a bit bigger. Mounted on the bar rather than up on the fairing it's closer to me as well.
If I ever get the chance to see one of these on a bike up close and in person I'll be really interested to look it over. Can't say I'd never do it (have to get the cradle painted to match the fairing). But it's nice to like what you've got.
