Took my 07 SEUC into the shop yesterday. They will be fixing my head gasket leak and heated hand grips. My rear head gasket was leaking. I was told they will pull both jugs and replace the base gaskets and head gaskets with a new updated type. They will also replace the rings. They told me they had performed the operation on six 110's and none had come back with a problem. My bike has 8,300 miles. I am getting ready for a 5,000 mile trip, I guess I will find out if the fix holds. I am just hoping for the best.

I hope that works for you Scott, but none of those fixes will stop liner slippage, if that's really the cause of our problems.  Some slippage has appear to be more obvious for some, but any slippage can cause the gaskets to leak on the top end.  Rings and gaskets will not fix that problem.

I got a customer satisfaction survey last night. It was the "now that you've had your se ultra for 18 months what do you think?" I went on about a lot but i did mention, two engine rebuilds due to leaking with the 3rd due now since i have 14,000 miles (happens every 4-5000 miles). I'm affraid to ride my $36,000.00 motorcycle to sturgis, how's that for customer satisfaction >:(. My 06 is perfect, my 08 is perfect, my 07 110 is a disgrace as far as reliability and their no action is a disgrace as well. My answer didn't help the situation but at least i got to vent.

Mine should be there when I get home. Although my dealership has preformed wonderfully, I can't say the same about the engine... grips...seat...primary... etc.

Well, the questionnaire was in the mailbox when I got home. I wonder if anyone will read the "comments" section if I fill it out?

Hard10,
I filled out mine last winter and attached a 4 page letter that I had sent to the CEO with updates.  A few weeks later, the service manager told me they had a copy of my survey and the letter.  I did not have any issues with the dealer, but the product.
Yes, they do read them and pass it along, actions?  well who knows.

The shop called me today. My 07 SEUC with a little over 8,000 miles was in for a leaking rear head gasket. They told me that they completed "The fix". They said they ball honed the cylinders, installed new rings, a new type of gaskets, base and head gaskets, installed new valve guides, and replaced the cylinder studs. They told me they checked out the cylinder liners and they were ok. They also found the exhaust Y pipe had a crack and needed replacement. They said it was bad enough to cause damage to the engine if not replaced. They have the part on order and will replace under warranty. I hope to have my bike back for the 4th of July. Again, thank goodnes for my warranty. I am not upset, I feel the dealer is working hard to take care of me. Soon I will take the bike on a 5,000 mile trip, I hope I don't have any problems.

FYI, a leak in your exhaust system close enough to the cylinder heads will burn a hole in your exhaust valves. It starts out as a small little pinprick near the edge of the valve and the longer it goes without being detected, it will burn a line like an acetylene torch to the stem.

Thanks for the heads-up Spiderman. My understanding is that the leak was at the exhaust Y, I guess it was coming apart were the two pipes come together. They called today to let me know the bike was completed, they will have her all cleaned-up and ready for pick-up Tuesday. I can't wait to see if I notice any difference.

I am also curious to see the paperwork showing all the parts replaced. They told me everything was covered under warranty.

Thanks again

I'm getting a real bad feeling and I hope I'm dead wrong on this one.

In my mind, the only logical thing for the MoCo to do would be to fix the real problem, the cylinders. I've now got a sneaky suspicion that the parts-program we've been waiting for may be nothing more than the "B" gasket and some new o-rings.

Gawd, I hope this ain't so, but I'm not feeling so confident we're looking at fixed jugs anymore.

 :(

My source's source has retired which means the information flow has been disrupted. Looks like I'm heading back into the dark with all of the other mushrooms.

:indian_chief:

I was WRONG (kind of) and I'm so glad I was!!!!!

I'd still like to get a set of jugs out of the deal, but heads will be OK instead. I wonder if this means I'll lose my early-production "heat-monitoring" silver labels, or if the existing labels will be transfered.

I guess that means I don't have to buy that oceanfront property in Arizona, that pigs really can fly, and that it pays off to be a dreamer. ;)

You mean you've still got those ugly things and you're actually proud of 'em?  I've got mine also but they are in the box with my other take-off parts. :2vrolijk_21:

Just yankin' your chain a little Chuck.  Well mine sure as heck turned yellow (rear cyl) as I ran bone stock for over 10k.  Long before that on the original motor I switched 'em out.  OK if not yellow but the damn thinkg looked like chit.

Chuck, I changed mine to black labels, so far avoiding the leak.   ::)

Chuck,

Found out my service manager did the cylinders on warranty in part since they were stained, in part because they had slipped.  Yours are stained most likely - should get new ones.  Would press for that if it were me.
