big signs heading east on 129 before you get htere encourging truckers to turn around.....

Been meaning to ask you this for awhile Neal. This is your site, so I assume features like spell check were installed by you, YET you seem to have a some serious issues with spelling and an aversion to properly utilizing your own software.  :D

I've read this three times and I can't help but wonder if the guy had any experience with the trike or if he just bought it and thought he'd break er in on the Dragon. Just doesn't add up. Like Neal says, that road isn't as bad as it's reputation by quite a bit. I'll stack up the Palomar Mtn Rd out her against it. And with Palomar, you miss a curve it's about a mile straight down. Anyway, sad to read about a guy probably just retired checkin out like this.

I would NOT want to ride the dragon on a trike at all.
Not being able to lean into the curves would just suck.

This man lived about 80 miles from me, but I did not know
him. I hate to hear of anyone dying while riding. I pray
his family will be strong in their time of grief.

The story is a sad one, and from the comment "over corrected" it appears someone witnessed the accident who was close enough to ascertain what the problem was that led to the accident.

Was riding a few weeks ago near Hot Springs, NC -another fun twisty road - 209 (?) -  & my riding buddy failed to negotiate a turn on his softail & almost went off the other side of the road AFTER he went over the double yellow line in a sharp turn.  He told me later he had a brain fart & just over reacted.  If he had gone 2 feet further, he would have over reacted into a rock wall.  Big accident reason - over correction in a curve.

Last time through the Dragon I stopped once -  for a travel trailer pulling a trailer.  It was well past the line in the corner & no way could the driver negotiate that turn pulling that much behind him.  Best to stop & wait but some bikers just try to keep going.  Dumb. The road is technical, but it ain't that big a deal as to riding it.  Other roads in the area are just as challenging, and other roads around the country offer similar/greater challenges.

About 75% are still a straight axle.  California Side Car and another brand are just about the only independent suspensions out there.  Lehman, Champion, and the other known brands are solid axles.  If I were to  trike today, the California Side Car, made in Virginia, is the best their is (IMO)..

Thats the one. I have always wondered if the boat was across the center line in his lane.

Me too. But first impression from looking at the picture with boat is that the truck and trailer are inside the yellow and the trike overshot the turn and ran into the side

Take a look at this series of pics and see how a Tractor and Trailer can disappear on the Dragon.

I have never ridden a trike before, but would imagine it handles like an old Farmall tractor. Go slow and avoid potential danger is the only safe thing to do on one...
