Overlay Harness and Tour Pak Removal
« on: June 24, 2008, 07:35:20 PM »

Is there away to disconnect and remove the auxilary amp (under the tourpak), leaving the overlay harness in place, and changing connections inside the fairing so that all four speakers will still function (like a stock Ulta Classic) in an effort to make my tourpak detachable? I would like to do this first and then maybe later add the Hawg Wired setup with amps in the fairing and four speakers up front while keeping the rear speakers in operation being powered by the HK radio when I put the tourpak on. I believe that H-D Dude is probably the most knowledgeable member regarding this subject. Any help on this subject would be appreciated!

Tom, I believe all you're doing basically is removing the amp. Chief has done this so he can remove the TP. I know he doesn't have the Hog Wired amp installed but maintains functionality of the speakers.

Thanks AJ, now I hope someone will tell me what connectors need to be changed in order to maintain function.

You know Tom, if we keep posting here someone like Fired00d will likely find a link to the thread where this information is located. If we ask nicely maybe he would even post that link.

Tom,

It's very simple and the system is an add on system so the radio works fine without it. When you start unplugging plugs, what is left simply plugs back together. It's really easy and does not require a service manual.

In short, the amp plugs in between the feed from the radio and the speakers in a sense hi-jacking the signal, boosting it and sending it back to the speakers. All you'll be doing is taking the amp plugs out from between the original speaker connections at each speaker and plugging the speakers back into the existing plugs.

If you have any specific questions, shoot me a PM and I'll help you out some more.
