Tour Pak lock
« on: June 26, 2008, 03:15:47 AM »

Since this would apply to Ultras, Electra Glides and Road Glides hanging it here rather than one of the model specific sections.

Does anyone have a part number for the tour pak lock/tumbler by itself.  Just looked in the parts manual and find individual part numbers for the saddlebag locks and ignition switch.  But the tour pak lock part number is for a "complete lock set" for which you can not specify a key code when ordering.

The price is right.  The complete lock set with keys supplied at Harley's whim is about the same price as a keyed to order ignition lock by itself.  But I don't want to change all the other locks.  Just the tour pak's.

Don't have a part # for ya, but the one person who would know the answer is Jenny. When I bought a tour pack for an E-glide standard she volunteered lots of good info about the lock. She spit out #'s off the top of her head. She just recently moved, again, and I'm at work and don't have the new phone #, but somebody will.

I've got a brand new one laying around out in the garage.  (Now if I can only find the guy that bought my '02 Ultra to get a key from him.  ??? )

I bought #53848-00 last year for 01 SERG and used my own tumbler and key. It is cheap enough ($20-) not sure if it helps you.  I don't have a tumbler only number.

The Tour Pak Lock and Key P/N is 53848-00.

Thanks guys.  Appreciate the help.  It was very likely in the parts manual but I was just too brain dead to read it accurately in the wee hours this morning.

I have the left over saddlebag locks from when the SEEG got the conversion to electric locks.  For a reason I do not remember also have a spare ignition lock keyed to the SEEG.  Going to get the tour pak lock to complete the set and make the SEEG and SERG keyed alike so will only have one set of bike keys to contend with.

Got more spare keys on the SEEG's keycode then would use in a lifetime.  Here's a stupid-twolane story about keys from when the SERG first came home though.

Bike had only been here a few days.  Took it for a ride that ended up being more fun and, therefore, longer than expected.

Out in the boonies I realize I don't know this gas gauge and I don't know how much fuel the bike actually had in it when I picked it up.  But it's got be getting low.  It just has to be.  And not just low but LOW.

Know there's a little country store that has a pump 10 or 12 miles away.  But the next closest thing I know of is 40.  Get to the closer store and realize I left the garage without the keys to the new bike.  The SEEG has just a push button.  The SERG has the keylock on the fuel door.

Crap!

I hate doing stupid stuff.  I really do.

About the time I'm ready to head out and see if I can make it the 50 miles or so home a guy on an FLHX pulls in for fuel.  Had already remembered that those fuel door locks were universal.  So I can use his key.  Ask the guy and he's like "sure, no problem" all the time no doubt thinking "what an idiot."

So after the half hour wait at the store and finally getting fuel and heading home I'm doing fine.  Until it dawns on me that a key to the SEEG had been on the key chain in my pocket the whole time.

Dumbass.

Now that sounds like something I'd do.... :huepfenlol2: :huepfenlol2: :huepfenlol2:  I picked up my Street Glide Monday after having it serviced at the dealership.  I did the usual and left the key with the fob in saddlebag, where they said to leave it.  When I picked the bike up, I opened up the saddlebag and didn't see the key, so I went to the other bag and opened it, and nope, no key.  So I went back into the service center and the Service Manager asked what was wrong and I said I won't get very far without the key, he said it's in the right saddlebag, I said, I can't see it, so he goes out and opens the right bag and pulls the key and fob out....told him he needs to go to Vegas, cuz that was a neat magic act.  He said it was laying right in the bottom of the bag....I must not have looked deep enough into that totally empty bag.   :nixweiss: :-[
