Fairing question
« on: June 30, 2008, 02:36:37 PM »

Does anyone know for sure if the fairing from a 2000 model Road Glide will directly interchange with a current model?

If you have a dremel and billet hinges you can make it work.

Hinges?  Ok, I'll bite.  What has to be done on the 2000 model fairing to use it on a current model bike?

I know there was some windshield change or difference in the intervening years.  But don't know if the 2000 outer fariing will directly attach to a newer model bike without modification.

Of course I have one!
You need it?
Have the inner fairing also.
You need one of those.
The garage is full.
Even have the 105th anniversary Dyna Wide Gilde in there.
Can't hang that from the ceiling!

Is there still an H-D Tech line or do you have to be a dealer to call ?

Based on Past History with HD it should with no problem, The design hasn't changed Fairing or frame wise since.

During the day today it was discovered that the part number for a primed outer fairing for a current model bike still carried the -98 part number.  That seemed confirmation enough.  Thanks to everyone for their insights and assistance either here or in PM and email.  As always it was all very much appreciated.

That P/N is -98B meaning the 2nd revision of a part first issued during the 98 model year. My guess would be that when H-D went to the Twin Cam platform for some reason the fairing for the Road Glide needed to be modified. Actually, the Road Glide is a strictly Twin Cam model isn't it ? Weren't the earlier frame mounted dual headlight fairing touring bikes designated Tour-Glide ?

My 98 RG had a E motor in it.The only change I'm aware of was to lower and angle it down a little bit cause the headlights couldn't be adjusted down enough to get em on the road.  Doc

The current one was reintroduced in 98. I got the anniversary model. It had a E-motor with M/M fuel injection. I was bummed when the new motor came out the nest year, but little did I know. My son has it now and is riding the dog chit out of it with over 100k and still going very strong. My 84 FXR had over 100K when I sold it to my brother in law and we both agree it was the best Harley we have ever owned.  Doc

I forgot just how drop-dead gorgeous that 95th anniversary paint combo. was until I saw a MINT Wide Glide over the weekend.  I bet the Road Glide is a real looker, too.

When I saw it in the showroom it took my breath away, the new model and those colors. I was set up by my wife and the owner actually, and couldn't say no to the new bike when I saw it. I decided to keep it in the family and made my son a deal he couln't refuse. Here is a pic of him and my grandaughter on the "E-motor RG" with those drop dead colors. Doc
