Congrats for your family; it's a great feeling to have your children take the steps forward to adulthood and responsibility...OH!...and the gas card is worth it's weight in gold too :) :) :) :2vrolijk_21: Congrats again...

Thanks! It's been a lot of fun watching him grew up into good person. I miss not having him with me all the time but I couldn't be happier for him. He's becoming his own man and following his own ideas and dreams.

Congrats Ed!

So, do I call him when I have a problem with my boat's 3126TA's

Not yet! Although he did kick around the thought of majoring in marine diesels, we'll have to watch where that one goes.

God bless him for following his heart.  It will work out just fine.  Only trouble is, everything is so darn heavy to lift, move, remove, replace, fix (insert own verb).  I'll bet one link of the backhoe track is 100 lbs.  You should be very proud of him Ed.

Jim,
You're right and he and I have talked about that. Cat is pretty serious about safety. They have a game plan on how to left move and fit everything, of course JR might have seen things differently a few years back.  ;)

That is another area I'm really happy for him. I couldn't be happier that he went with what he wanted to do and most of all that he found something he was passionate about and enjoys.

I know that I overpay for the service I am getting from the mechanics at my marina...gonna service/winterize myself this year...like the bike, if I don't do it myself, I am not sure it is being done!  Let alone done right!

Thanks Dave,
I passed on the conversation that you and I had about tools. We had the talk about going into the trades and he worked with me a lot and always enjoyed taking things apart and putting them back together. Might as well get paid for it.

I'll let him know about the replies to this thread, he gives me a hard time about this being our MY Space equivalent.

Congratulations, letting them go off to do their own thing is a hard thing to do, but it sounds as though you have done your parenting job well! Plus, playing around with those overgrown toys, yehaa, now thats fun! Roger

Pete is definately a great kid. Ed you done well with all your children, youre a great pops. So when I see pete next I will let him know that. And for him and school i took a lot of chit for joining the military then becoming a tradesmen so I know its tough to please everyone one but pleasing himself comes first......Now get your sick twisted minds out of the gutter you heathens.  Later,Q

Thanks Roger, that's really all they are, very very expensive overgrown toys.

Thanks mi amigo, Pete's been thinking about traveling after he's been in the trade for a few years. He wants to try Alaska for one stop. At least with his job he'll able to work almost anywhere.

He'd better be a good kid, oops did I say that out loud. ::) I think the trades were a good way for him to go and so few people are going into them now. He had all honors classes in HS but just couldn't find anything else he wanted to do.

The education director at Cat, contact info via JR, pushed hard to get Pete in the program. Pete was stronger on the computer, technical end of the scale then the mechanical. Math and science were pretty strong too so he's a good fit for the trouble shooting end of things. Now with the training on the mechanical end he's starting to round things out.

I have a second, and third job teaching two different apprenticeship courses at night and the classes are getting smaller all the time. But the pay rates keep going up. Hard to find quality apprentices that want to work. Thanks Q, now what gutter is this you're talking about?? ;)
