Holy crap! That's some job to go thru! I like Puzzled and Headpan's way much better, put a carb on! :nixweiss: :nixweiss: :nixweiss:

The carb only shifts the work over time in IMHO. I like FI especially riding over the Sierras and the Rockies; no problems, the bike just runs great.

:'(

I feel so inadequate.....

Thanks for all the detail....way over my skill set level....but at least I know how to start.

LOL! If I can do it, anybody can. Just one step at a time. Helps that I have a GREAT dealer.  :2vrolijk_21: They helped find part numbers, gave me info on what would and would not work. Also allowed me to help with the stage two downloads which provided the info on the process.

That's great that you knew what to do and could go thru that effort to get it done. To order all those parts new would cost a small fortune. Glad you were able to convert it over successfully. For the average guy, the carb route seems to be cheaper and simpler. Not knocking what you did. I'm quite impressed actually. :2vrolijk_21:

If I hadn't found the whole setup on EBay, I probably would still be riding with M&M.  ;) As I recall, just the ECM was around $500. You're right about the carb conversion. But I like electrical and wiring, so this was a good project.

So Hoist...did you do the carb conversion or did a dealer do it? You order the carb from them? What was the approximate cost of a carb conversion?

Thanks!

Not me MDC. Puzzled and Headpan both did it to their SERG's. They both love it and could probably help ya out. My SERK is my only FI bike. I've only owned carbs before. Still do. And still prefer em. Much easier to deal with and tune. If the SERK had that option, it'd be a carb bike! ;)

I am still in the process of converting mine to delphi.  Thayers fuel injection is helping me.  They have all of the wiring harness and fuel rail that allows you to use the delphi fuel injection with the mm TANK.  mine is due for completion of the programming of the new ECM and TSSM as well as all of the other parts in the conversion.  Should get it this week.  He's a good guy to talk to regarding this conversion.  Scot

Scot,

Dan Thayer is TOP NOTCH in my book. He helped me with my Zippers problems when Zippers wouldn't. I can't say enough good things about Dan Thayer.

So far so good.  The programming of the ECM/TSSM are taking a while but, I'm patient.  He has been good to deal with.  Knowledgeable.  I gave him a list of performance add on that I have, and he is creating a base tune for it.  Pretty cool.  I will still have to tune it out, but it will be close.  He suggested that I get a datona twin tec data module.  Basically get a custom tune from that.  Pretty cool.

I'm headin to Arkansas in a month, so I will tackle it after, even if it all comes together earlier.  Looking forward to it.  CVOGEO, I still am goning to pick your brain when the time comes, if that is OK.    :2vrolijk_21:

Pick away. Ain't much there, so shouldn't take long.  ::) So did you go straight to the Twin Tech and skip Delphi? My buddy went with Tech Twin and I have spend some time working on it. The new version with twin O2 sensors works well.

cvogeo, not sure what you mean by IMHO, but I ride cross country every year, from 12,000 ft in the rockys to the desert of nevada, no isssues, worries, pinging, I did ajust the idle at 9000 ft but other then that(bullit proof)..I never rode a bike with the delphi, but I hear it is the(cats meow)..but for me ,jets at $ 2.50 compaired to a download of a few hunderd,i take the carb,I tried everything poss. to get the m&m to run right, but all it did was fight me and take my coin..MDC..pm me or puzzled ,all H-D parts.. wiring harness,,carb,,pingel petcock conversion kit,coil,..and with the money I made selling the m&m on ebay ,i actually made a buck or 2......ride on-headpan :2vrolijk_21:

Headpan,

Glad to hear you have good success with the carb setup. I agree it's cheaper. I'm a tech guy and work with computers, so the dependability of FI appeals to me and I'm comfortable working on it. As for downloads, the Delphi on the SERG gets a Stage Two and that's it. The Twin Tech that Cash338 is using is different in that you can alter many factors in the injection maps. Basically create your own downloads.

Hey, the whole reason we have carbs and FI is that one does not fit everyone. I would rather manage the performance with a keyboard and mouse; you seem to prefer a screwdriver. Neither are wrong; just different!  ;D

Keep me posted on how that goes. I almost went that route complete with DTT system. But Zippers finally took care of the problem issues and the bike has been running great ever since. I once had Dan Thayer working with Dan Fitz to try and solve my Zippers issues, that's how top notch he is.

Although I keep buying Kawasaki Police Bikes, one day I WILL own a first generation SERG. And when I do, it will go carb!
