2 types of riders fall (pun unintended) into this category:

1. Those who have dropped their bike.

2. Those who have dropped their bike but say they have not dropped their bike.

LMFAO!  I was saying that straight out!  What I said there in a roundabout way is that I need to be much less pig headed when I'm pissed off beyond all recognition and listen to my wife who is actually concerned about my well being.   ;D

3 years ago on an old dresser I left my house on a gorgeous morning that was 15 degrees outside.  Problem was it rained like a mofo the day before and ran across the road and froze a 200 foot of road, side to side with no escape path.  I made 150 feet before I had to try to turn or run into a rock wall.  I leaned... very VERY gently.  The bike said "Screw you dummy" and I made another 25 feet on my side.  Then 3 guys helped me lift her off the ice.  I rolled it the remaining 25 feet and rode the rest of the way to work.  Pig headed... That's me!

I rode that day because I blew the motor on my car the dya before in the rain and was pissed of and didn't want to call someone to give me a ride.  My wife warned me that the rain might have frozen and nicely offered to give me her car and get a ride from someone herself.  Since my wife never nags, she didn't force the issue and screwed the paint on my immaculate 14 year old dresser.

What reminded me of this, is that was the first time after 18 years of street riding that I ever had a bike on it's side.  I tried the picj-up technique and ended up with my feet sliding out and then me sliding about 10 feet down the hill away from the bike looking like special eddie, flat on my back with traffic stopped in both directions.  It's funny now.  Very funny.  Not so much then.  :-[

Ride Safe,
J-Carr

P.S.  I still ride in below freezing temps.  I just take the cage the day before to make sure the road is clear before I take Nemo!

I think it was Paladino's wife in his new video that does it.

It's a lot harder to do when there's about 100 people watching. At least that's what they tell me.

When I teach Ride Like A Pro, out here on the West Coast, picking up the motorcycle is the second thing I go over. The first thing is the correct way to safely step off and away from a falling bike. That is more important because too many folks get injured trying to hold up that beast. When the bike goes past the point of no holding up, just let it go down onto the crash bar. Too many riders damage soft tissue and joints struggling to hold it up. You do NOT want to get trapped under it either. Just step off and away. Then I straddle a bike, lean it over, step off and away and let it go over. Then I pick it back up. Nothing to it!

Once I was at a dealer and saw three guys struggling to get an Ultra upright. All 5’7” 145lbs of me went over and picked the bike up by myself. They were stunned. I told them it’s all technique.

Ironhorse's post reminded me of something else on this topic:

When I get a new bike, I lay it down from each side (on carpet or something soft) & then pick it up from each side in the garage.  Why?

It's easier to do this & figure out the best hand holds when you are in a controlled surrounding. An intersection full of cars honking and folks waving 1 finger at a biker who has never picked their bike up & is struggling to figure out how in the middle of a street is not a pleasant thing to watch.  Of course we quickly assist but still.......

Technique doesn't work on ice.  Specially when facing downhill all the way over past the crash bar/saddlebag guard.  Don't ask me how I know that either!  :'(

J-CARR you are a baddd man. Now that got my attention!!!!

Back on track, in Motor Cop Training that is how they teach to up right your dresser. It is actually very easy that way. And nope I don't personally know!!!!!
