You still get the blast of air coming up around the forks.  It's just directed differently so you don't feel it as much.  It was there on our 01 SERG.

John, I've been told that the air dams were removed from 2000 model year production part way through.  Were they on the 01?

Crap....   It's not nice to make me choose between them.

Ok, assuming the things that should be corrected on bikes relative to their rider are correct or corrected on the Road Glide; windshield height, handlebar position/reach and seat.  Assuming those are all equally dialed in to the rider on each bike the Road Glide is a more pleasant ride going down the ride.

Just going straight down the highway I can't say the difference is huge.  But it is real and it is noticeable.  A more dramatic difference is the handling though.  Without having all the weight of the fairing, radio, harness and other electronics on the bars going from one bike to the other makes the Road Glide feel amost nimble (or as nimble as a hog that size can be).
As Doc mentioned with the lowers on and tucked up close to the fairing not a lot gets to the rider.  It is a nice, clean, non-turbulent and surprisingly quiet ride.  It's not that the SEEGs are completely competent to take down the highway all day long.  They are.  Especially when setup accordingly for the task.  It is readily apparent, however, that the RG is even more suited to the task.

Don, I have riden two Road Glides in my life and I would agree with all your statements based
on my limited experience with them. I enjoyed the nimble feel and air management a lot more
than my SEEG. I also felt the RG more pleasant to ride in all areas of riding. I still like the look
of the batwing better but I feel a SERG will be in my future. Of course it has to be the Yellow
one and I guess I will just have to buy the lowers and tour pack extra. They probably won't
make a Yellow one next year.

I love the look of that dash layout though.  Just a cool looking inner.

Especially when it's painted.
Wonder what the hold up is on that?

From my experience this year it seems a safe thing to suggest that lowers on the RG are seasonal.  They fit closely enough to the fairing that not much gets by them.  And it gets warm behind them.

Lowers off it's a fine summer time ride.  But the lowers are probably three season parts at best.  However....  I'm already sure it's going to be a great cool weather bike.  Heated seat and lowers, bring on the winter!

That is a tremendous improvement Chip.  A lot to be proud of there.  Not all colors would do as nicely there.  But that inner in that blue is just spectacular.

Don,
They were not on the 01, though we added it.  It made a little difference, but not much in that respect.  I'll definitely agree about the highway manners of the RG.  That frame mounted fairing takes all the sway out of her when a truck goes by or a heavy crosswind.  It takes some getting used to that large thing sticking out there, but it works really well.  It's quite a shame the moco didn't put a proper tourpak and stuff, at least as an option, on an RG.  They'd sell a ton of them.

A lower price.  They are pricing many of us out of the market with their current approach, perhaps it's time to borrow some ideas from the Japanese (auto and bike) relative to option packages.  Regular Ultra, mid level upgrade with most of the SE stuff but perhaps without the paint or some other appearance stuff, and then the full zoot CVO version.  If they would incorporate the changes into regular production and get rid of the inefficient assembly process they currently use, there's no reason they couldn't make more profits while cutting the price spread from standard to CVO significantly.

I found it tough to justify $30k for a motorcycle in '05, but I would have a really tough time justifying $36k for the current model.  Figure taxes (including the Harley tax to make it run) and fees into the equation, you're basically looking at $40k for 2 wheels.  I don't spend that much on my four wheeled vehicles, and those I can use year round and in all kinds of weather.  Oh, and they are reliable and don't spend any time sitting in the shop.

Jerry

Hard to justify?..........LOL.......buying any Harley is hard to justify because of the price, that is what makes it such a love hate relationship.  We Love em, and we hate HD for the price.

My 08 #56 cost me 42K out the door, my dealer is a MSRP for the CVO's, but I added the extended warranty, the lifetime service, extra head set, security, life insurance and gap.  I am happy with her, I picked up a 2007 14' low hauler v-nose http://www.haulmark.com/php/products/submodel.view.php?sub_model_id=300024

Hard to justify it?  no way, it is all a part of the love hate relationship we have with HD.  We love em and we hate HD for the price.  I paid 42K out the door; my dealership is an MSRP for the CVO's but I added extended warranty, lifetime service contract, security, extra headset, life insurance, gap insurance etc, then picked up a 2007 14' v-nose low hauler http://www.haulmark.com/php/products/submodel.view.php?sub_model_id=300024 and now if I ever need to trailer her, she goes in style.  I have been offered 45K and was very tempted for a few seconds.

I have had her almost a year and don't even think about the items I have added and what they have cost.

GOTTA LOVE IT.

Now that the bike is out we can make some real recommendations for what the 2010 SE Ultra should have been upgraded with. Here's my list:

- Detachable Tour Pak
- Hi-powered amp in the fairing instead of under the TP
- How about LEDs at all 4 corners and in the taillight
- How about getting into the 21st Century and doing away with the asinine system they pretend is a GPS and just build the Zumo into the fairing
- How about chrome hardware on the engine...just seems so cheaped out to install with zinc plated hardware on a $36,000 bike
- How about real doors on the lower fairings with push button latches that can be locked or unlocked.
- Why not bring Bluetooth back with a decent headset that can be used with any helmet to really make the CB/intercom more convenient
- And lastly, the bike is deserving of at least a 5 year warranty.

All other upgrades/options should be based on individual preference. That's my list...what do other's think?

I couldn't agree more. It is another example of HD milking a good thing instead of innovating. As long as we keep buying them, I don't think we will see much in the way of innovation.

From July 27, 2008.   Am I a seer or what?  We've heard recently that the CVO assembly will be incorporated into regular production, and for 2010 we now see a mid level Ultra called the Limited.  And I thought H-D never read my stuff.

Now if they would just read the stuff about quality and reliability.

Well I heard and read all the complaints..............now what are we doing buying them??
I just WANT a watercooled CVO Tourglide that will run, and run, and run.
No premium fuel, no $$$ to make it run! NO HEAT.......
How simple can it be?????????????????
