Where did you get the plate/fixture that you have the magnetic base holding on to?

Sean, I can't make out the logo in the plates 12 o'clock so don't know if it's a Jim's tool or whomever, but the plate is part of a cam tool set with just the rest of its fixtures removed.

I saw in Portholes pictures he just used a magnetic base and extension arms to get the reading, I am guessing as long as your have a stable platform and no movement of the base that is sufficient to check the run out?

TwoLane was right on the money.  This particular inner cam bearing installer is from George's Garage.  Had it on and hand and it worked well for this purpose too.
