Texas,,, Thanks for your reply, after posting question, I picked up a 2009 P&A catalog, on page 358 it shows the feature touring bike for 09 with all options on it, it says that the bike shown has SE slip ons with an 07 part number,, so I take it that earlier ones will fit.

Pipes will fit fine, The CVO 110s have a 7in cat Convertor blocking the Header Pipe where it merges from 2 into one, its easier to remove then the ones inside the mufflers but its about a 14 inch reach.

Dartman, Are you saying that the cat converter is in the header pipes, instead of the slip ons?

Yes indeed, I noticed mine was running rather sluggishly when I brought it home, pulled the right muffler and it was clear, looked up the header pipe with a light and there it was, I dont know how they even run, cat is 7 in long and hard to get air through, Guess the MoCo was going to outsmart the muffler swappers.

Dartman, Thanks for the info, I have 09 Silver/Blue coming, was going to change slip-ons, but it sounds as though that won't matter. Is it safe to assume then, that the stock CVO mufflers this year are NOT catalyst? Thanks again,, and God Bless

Its not much of a job with the proper equiptment, go to Dakota Zebs thread on drilling out stock mufflers, there is a link I posted to the proper tool for removal.

I still do not understand (not a wrench obviously). I have a new SEUC4...I was going to simply put on new slip ons (I like the V&H monster ovals, among others) but this thread indicates it won't do any good unless I pull the cat. converter (which I did not know was even there) from the header pipes. I do not want to eliminate the 2 into 1 into 2.  So can someone explain this and my opitons in layman terms?? :nixweiss: :huepfenlol2:
Many thanks

I'm new to this.  dartman and others know way more about it than I do.  Here's what I've gathered that has to happen to get our bikes where they should be when we bought them:

1) Drill out the catalytic converter, which is in the main head pipe.  Dartman posted this link to a core drilling bit that will do the job:
http://mcgillswarehouse.com/ItemDetails.aspx?ItemID=154120006&IN=SILVERBRAZEDDRILLBIT,14"LX1.6"W,with5segments.
My understanding on what has to happen here is that you drill from where the right muffler connects to the header with the bit toward the engine.  This will boar a 1.6" hole in the center of the cat opening the exhaust flow.  The cat is 7" long, so you have to drill through the entire thing.  This is why we need a long core bit.  It is also probably a good idea to mark something on the bit 7" down so you don't drill through the header.

QUESTION: can this be done while the header is on the bike?  I assume so, but it will be messy and you must be very careful.  Can someone with more experience than me comment on this?

2) You need to open up your stock mufflers either by removing the inner baffle or by replacing them.  Fullsac has a nice remove and replace baffle (http://www.fullsac.com/products.html).  It's easy to remove the OEM baffle from your muffler and then install Fullsac's keeping the look of your bike stock.  Many slip-on pipes will also fit the stock headers.  Search this board for many options...

3) You're going to need a Race Tuner to change the computer programming and probably hire someone with a Dyno that has intimate knowledge of how to program the bike.  The Factory program will probably be hosed after completing #1 & #2.  I would not run the bike without at least applying a canned HD race tuner map.

All of this just gets us to square one.  To get the most out of the engine you're going to need to change the cam, which basically will get fuel/air into the engine and probably do some other stuff that is way over my head.

No problem drilling with everything attached, I removed the muffler and the plug and was on the road in 30 min, when the end of the bit reaches the proximity of the head pipe slow down you are there you will feel the drill spin freely when it cuts through, the hole you drill is considerably larger then the plug that come out the diamond cutters make approx a 1/4 inch swath as they cut through.

Dartman, What is your opinion on the end result? Any performance increase, I would think that there is a sound level increase. Have you gone with a SERT, I am interested in this process on mine, and I will be using SE Touring Performance Slip-ons, Thanks again for your info

The Exhaust tone even with the OEM mufflers is noticeably louder under accelleration, and the engine spins more freely. www.nightrider.com is working on an upgrade for the 09 02 sensors im waiting to see what they develop, their IED's worked great on my 07 SE Ultra with Supertrapp Tuneables.
