Just a hunch, but I've thought that when Senator McCain closes his eyes and sees an image of himself he sees a guy in a Superman shirt but with a big R rather than a big S.

I have one with that on it! :D

To date McCain has offered nothing but slanders and negative ads . He has no answers to what the Bush administration has done TO this country. He still has to tow the party line and that is what so many people are against. I saw a reply from another reader who said his life was much better off now than before Bush, Well I am happy for him but maybe he should look around and see how every one else is.The world is a much scarier place , as we have pissed on every bush around us outside of our own yard .The world does not see us as an ally but rather a paper tiger that bullies every one. We need to work WITH others and resolve these issues before we doom ourselves. McCain is not that type of man but rather a small guy with a small guy attitude.

Ditto, Ditto, and Ditto!

Some who respond that things are great in this country now must be living in a separate universe than most in the country.  THAT is the issue in this election...the upper single digit percentile who are apparently living with their head up their collective asses, and could care less about what's going on around them, yet most profess to the Christian Philosophy..., but I see very little Christian PRACTICES.  Tithing for missionary work in BFE does not absolve one of social responsibility in your backyard.  The Gap is growing into a Chasm, and like it or not, things are going to change.  One of the basic premises for social upheaval is a widening gap between the haves and have nots, and placing blame does not solve the issue, particularly for those who are honestly trying to do better, but simply cannot.

TC, you know me well enough to understand that I tend to be more the analyst of all them than the cheerleader for any of them.  With that in mind your notion of who might represent or speak for whom best also got something of a comeuppance today.  Character and personalities as they'll play out on the national stage aren't yet known of course.  But speaking strictly to who might best represent your implied "average American" this is one of those rare times when it actually is someone on a GOP national ticket.

While not hugely wealthy by comparison the Obamas are well off.  He's done well and she's done as well or better.

The McCains are of course very well off.  His career in the Senate is a vesting that takes care of damn near anything after he leaves.  And we all know of the family wealth through his wife.

Biden has been a creature of the Senate nearly all his adult life.  Again, even if not significantly wealthy he's taken care of.  And he's led the insular life of a United States Senator for a long long time.

Then there's Palin.  The best paying job she's ever had was Governor of Alaska for about $85k a year.  Her husband works too.  Not in a way that's going to make anyone wealthy.  And they've got five kids.  One with Down's Syndrome.  Living in a state with a high cost of living and in which not nearly so many perks coming with being Governor as happens in other states.  And she's only had that gig for less than two years.

So of the four who from which party is likely to best speak from direct and recent knowledge about the day to day efforts of most Americans?

I'd rather have an angry small guy with an itchy trigger finger than a cowardly pacifist bent on appeasement.  Libya used to threaten us for crying out loud!  They were responsible for the Pan Am bombing over Lockerbie, Scotland.  Haven't heard a peep since their Presidential Palace was bombed.  In fact, weren't diplomatic relations recently reestablished?  Americans overseas need to know that their old man can whip someone elses old man.  It makes me  feel secure when I'm traveling outside of the country.  I see no problem at all in defending our interests.
BS I say. We are not defending our interests . If we were we would have gone for the kill and got T F out. In stead we are pussy footing around and not getting the job done. We have tried to fight politically correct wars for the last 40 years and every one in Washington is to blame. We don't hear from Libya because we did go for the kill. You can talk tough all you want but we both know that the trigger finger ain't going to push that button and we are both OK with that so stop the BS. McCain has jockeyed around acting like the He has some answers but he sure as hell ain't telling anyone what they are because his people haven't told him what he thinks. He has no plan at this point that's why he makes personal attacks on his compeditor. The whole problem most have with Obama is he's black and they can't come out and say it. Well the White race hasn't done so well maybe it's time to try someone else. Don't give me any Liberals will distroy our country crap, it ain't that easy to F up something that's already F up.
As for our old man kicking someone Else's old man try Puttin vs McCain we are up chit creek . Maybe you ought to think [novel idea] about how we all are to live together in a much smaller world . This is truly about survival and we need the best people to deal with it not reactionaries.

That's what's great about America.  We can each have our own opinions and not get punished for it.

Fortunately each can staff that job out; which is why we hire and equip the US Armed Services.  But even to use your analogy; are you kidding?

Vladamir Putin was an ex-KGB chief.  Someone who not only strode the hallways of Lubyanka but called them home and was comfortable there.  Ask Georgia, those threatened in the Ukraine and the Chechens about "reactionary."  Putin would have been quite at home discussing day to day social management exercises (yeah, that's a euphemism) with Lenin in a different day.

Facing that you'd be more comfortable with Senator Obama whose most forceful opponents before now were other 11 year olds in an Indonesian madrasa or Senator Biden who, though having lost a spouse and raised a family, has still been only a privileged US Senator since he was 29 years old?

I'm thinking that if any of them had to go on MTV's "Death Match" with Putin I'd choose the old white guy.  Or, since his time in captivity left him unable to pull on a tshirt without help sometimes, the mother of five.  It's probably the toughest gig any of them has faced recently and regularly.

My point exactly , McCain would puff his chest and get his ass handed to him , Obama on the other hand would weigh the options and then react. Again I am reminded of the Cuban Missile Crisis , thoughtfull diplomacy and a great poker face won over a  quick draw show them whose  boss attitude.
I have to Muse over the defence of Palin as a running mate. She's a mother of 5 , her husband has a real job , she's Governor of Alaska , that certainly qualifies her to be Vice President and more than likely President when McCain passes. For god sake the man is 72 years old how in touch with reality do you think he is. He and his wife have 13 homes,  credit card debt up the wazoo and you want him to lead our country . He can't even take care of his own affairs how is he going to lead the USA.

If you think you've been screwed for the past 8 Years- Just wait for the screwing the dem's are going give you - When they redistribute your Change.

Why your so bad off ,you can't afford internet access or an HD can you :)
See thats the problem with all you guys, you dont want to talk about foreclosures, gas prices, tarnished image of America overseas, transfer of wealth to the middle east and the top 1% in this country etc, you rather take a petty shot at someone who offers a different point of view. As well as creating all this bs fiction about the horrors of a democratic govt. Republicans became arrogant, fat and happy, embraced corruption, put ideaology before country and they have paid a price and will pay some more.

Yeah, the past 8 years have been pretty rough for me.  My business only grew by 22%.  I went from regular production Harleys to $35K Screamin Eagles..... I hate when this happens  :D :D :D

Sure don't want to go backwards, which is what would likely happen if we get Baracko's Excellent Adventure.  Business owners are screwed taxed beyond belief now.  If baracko gets to do what he has himself said that he wants to do, ....... well, we haven't seen nothing yet.
I'm happy for your good fortune and I'm afraid thats not shared by 46 million Americans without health insurance and on and on. You've seen your value added taxes increase by over 100% during the past 8 years except they call it commodity inflation or deflation of the dollar. Thats why 6 years ago, gas was $1.75 and today its double. So I would be bashing Obama on hypotheticals when the current occupant of the white house has been screwing all of us with his incompetence.

Thats why Vietnam is a good trading partner for the US today? Please!! Try invading Russia, India, China and see what happens. Its easy to bully the little country. Preemptive war was never part of any president's policy before Bush got into office. We should only send our citizens in harm's way, only when our country is attacked.
