I had a bad mc wreck in 1981. No headlight and no helmet. Now I like them both. I am not running with the high beam on but the springer light bounces enough that I think it gets there attention. I also assume everyone is going to pullout/turn/try to kill me...I am on the defensive when I am in the wind...

With the Ultra I ride with the high beam during the day. I use low beam with driving lights at night. I use to run with the driving lights on during the day, but please remember that oncoming traffic, for the most part, cannot see the turn signals. They are drowned out by the driving lights that are hanging just above 'em. Just a thought here guys and gals. But, as many of you, I've put many a mile on my butt and this seems to work out for me. Many times I'll also flash the lights when coming into an intersection just out of habit now.

If you used all of the above and you never had an accident......how do you know they never worked?
sounds like something was working.......

do not get me wrong.....I do not know what has kept you safe, but are you sure you do?

23 years without an accident is impressive.....

usually my thoughts were not focused on never but when......

You may be right.  But having tried it with and without I just so any difference in the killer moves made by the cages around me.  I think it's the fact that I still, somehow manage to keep alert and "war game" every vehicle around me, planning my escape if/when they do something stupid.

But in reality, let's face it... I lot of it is luck.

Ride Safe,

I started riding when I was 18 and had a real bad accident when I was 19
(sometimes I just think Kids should not ride motorcycles at all) I am 50 now
I ride now quite differently and try to stay on the top side......(I do not bounce like I use to)

I am very defensive but still make mistakes at times, been rather fortuneate that these mistakes have not been costly......

I have been lucky .......

Ride safe, be safe........

Fore what it's worth, it comes down to luck, riding skills and experience of being there and done that.   Common sense goes a long ways in keeping alive. Somewhere, $hit is going to happen, can't avoid it. Just be ready and come out alive to ride another day. Appears to be the excitement that keeps us free and motivated to keep getting on our scooter each day.
