My condolences to you and your family on the loss of your Dad, Greg! He sounds like he led a full life and enjoyed it to the fullest, like most never get to realize! We can all take a lesson from that! Following his lead is the best way to continue honoring him. Sounds like you'll be riding into your 90's too! Sorry for your loss bro!

Thanks again to all of you! Your words are comforting, inspiring and very much appreciated. Hoist your comment, "Following his lead is the best way to continue honoring him" is right on and we plan on doing that as best we can.

We had the visitation today and what a turnout. We thought he had outlived most of his friends but it turns out there are plenty left. Many had no idea the folks rode so much and got a big kick out of all the pictures we had on display.

Mom is doing really well but the stress and long hours for the last few days are starting to show. She's pretty tired but a real rock at 93!  :2vrolijk_21:

Thanks again from all of us.....

I'm saddened to tell you there is a rider down, my dad Howard. He passed away this last Thursday the 21st, he was 92. Some of you may remember some posts in the past about him and my mom, they were HD folks from pre WWII and enjoyed riding their 1938 Knucklehead up through the mid 50's. Except during the war when he had enlisted in the Navy. My mom even helped the war effort helping to build baby flat tops on the west coast. What a pair, they are truly an inspiration to all of us. Mom is still going strong, doing pretty good these last few days, and she's 93! They had been married for 67 years.

Thanks to all of you for your past replies to my posts about my Harley folks and their adventures. I had shared them all with the two of them and it brought a lot of joy to them hearing from fellow riders. I'm sure my dad is blasting around now on his "machine", as he put it, and having a grand time.

Here's a picture of dad in 1940 in L.A. on a 7000 mile trip he made through the western part of the US.

Keep riding dad!

Greg

My condolences, lost my dad this year also...ride his SERK in his memory, will drink one to your dad tonight!

Greg very sorry for the loss of your father. My condolences to you ,your mother and the entire family.
I have often thought about your parents since you posted those wonderful pictures of them back in the days. Maybe "Mom" is ready for that ride I suggested.  God Bless.

Thanks again to one and all for your support! We laid him to rest yesterday, tough day but still a good day. The weather was fantastic. The Navy was there in full dress and did a really nice job. As they were presenting the flag to mom would you believe a Harley rumbled by the cemetery, it was just perfect. Not sure mom heard it but I'll bet Dad did.

We're going to leave Wednesday for the 105th. Hope to see some of you there. We'll be riding in honor of my Dad with the US flag proudly waving from the back of the bike!!  :2vrolijk_21:

Thanks - Greg

Everyone, thanks for your kind comments! Going to print this thread now and share it with mom. Things have settled down a bit and I'm sure she will appreciate hearing from all you fellow Harley riders! She is doing great. Her memories are carrying her through, especially the good times on the back of the Knuck.  :-*

Thanks from all of us. Harley sure means a lot more than just a great ride.
