OK......
add lifters

send heads out to?......Dave Mackie?  Bobby Woods?   local shop?  dealer?

I think you might be going about this in a strange way. IMO, you should be talking to a builder, whomever you choose, to go over all this. Hard to piece meal a proper engine package together, from reading about it on the internet. It's all about the combo and I sense you piece mealing the best of the info you receive here to make your own package. Talk to a builder for a complete properly matched combination of components! ;)

Maybe, but trying to keep it simple.

Dealer has to perform 905/906 mod , so heads are being replaced. I do not want to tear the engine down and do what you did
"Howie" (not in for that much pain or expense)

option 1.  just let dealer do stock repair and let it be........no cost

option 2   dealer will let me do some mods within reason and keep thae warranty intact.  replace cams (no high lift) and lifters and bearings (which has no economy of scale but can be done at the same time)

send replacement heads out for tweaking or just leave them alone. Rods?  jugs leave alone as long as the originals are OK, leave pistons and rings alone.

so as I see it not much here to really talk about unless you guys can talk me into something.

trying real hard to not make this a project..

I've found the answer concerning the bearings in this thread :
http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=25698.0;all

Fom the Hot Bike mag website.

15. He removed the cam plate and snap ring and pulled the inner cam bearings. The new Torrington cam bearing (shown here on the left, sold separately) provides more surface area contacting the cams than the stock cam bearings. Side Note: Before installing cams into the cam plate, you should dry fit the cams to check lobe to case clearance. Check both cams, and if they spin then you're good to go.

http://www.hotbikeweb.com/tech/0807_hbkp_twin_cam_hop_up_tech/index.html

The reference is "Torrington B168 inner bearings" for '07 and newer.

Thank you Google !

the stock throttle body limits horsepower to about 105 with sae correction...you might show a few more if the chart is uncorrected, std correction, or the dyno isn't a late model dynojet...a 51 mm horsepower inc throttle body and se injectors is capable of at least 130 with a good air cleaner

se251 are good cams at 10.5 compression in an fxst, assuming the heads flow enough to support them...what exhaust do you plan to use?

yes, it is 50mm...however, the manifold flows very poorly...I recently upgraded my t/body and horsepower went from 104 to 115, both sae corrected on a dj250

Being the FNG non-wrenching fool that I am.... I was at the dealer the other day and asked their shop foreman who appears to have experience with performance builds  :nixweiss: what he would suggest in regards to adding the 251 cam.

His reply was that while the list he gave me is not all necessary if it were his bike this is the way he would go. He also made mention of the ole adage opinions are like assholes.  :huepfenlol2:

Here is his list:

Part# 22503-07 SE High Comp Piston +.010 o/s

         25466-06 SE 251 Cam

         25282-07 SE Cam Plate

         18401-03 SE Perfect Fit Pushrods

         18572-07 SE Tappets

         37951-98 SE Clutch Spring

         17378-98 SE Roller Rockers

         17675-01b SE Forged Plate

         + 19 hrs labor

Also suggested pulling my SERT and replacing with Super SERT for more adjustability

Gotta open her up for new ACR's and gaskets anyway!!  :sauer005:

I am looking for a reliable motor not the fastest bike on the site!!  :huepfenjump3: I am curious to hear from my motorhead pals here and tell me what youze think about this suggestion. If I lock in by the end of the month the dealer will give me a 25% off parts and labor.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!!!!      :rolleyes4: :rifle: away  :drink:

Thanks,

Howie

Howie,

Can't speak to your package specifically, but do have a question. Is it your desire (and nothing wrong with it if it is) to stay with all H-D parts? This might help w/the suggestions others might offer. :nixweiss:

Good point Gary. I only went in with the thought to add the 251. Anything above that is in addition to my original idea. I'm open to any vendor or manufacturer.

Very curious if what perceptions our resident motorheads may have. Initially just looking for a little more power and to maybe help cool her down a little.
