Red line oil differences
« on: September 04, 2008, 05:36:21 PM »

Would anyone know the differences between
RED LINE MTL (MANUAL TRANSMISSION LUBE) 75W / 80W GEAR OIL in the white bottle and Red Line Motorcycle V-Twin Transmission Oil in the black bottle and
Red Line Motorcycle V-Twin Primary Case Oil  and Red Line Shock Proof heavy for the primary.

Thanks

Don't know about the others, but the Shock Proof heavy works great in the SEEG transmissions

The difference.... If "motorcycle" is added to it, it will cost more $$$ ;D

Seriously specification wise I don't know. :nixweiss:

Really don't know what the actual differences would be other than expanding their marketing to include a "motorcycle" product.  I use MTL in the primary and Heavy Shockproof in the tranny and have for many hears in many bikes.  Excellent results.

Looks like your right, from Red line;
"We now have a line of Motorcycle products in black bottles. The MTL now classified as a 70W80 is the same product as the V-Twin Primary Case Oil and the ShockProof Heavy is also packaged as V-Twin Transmission Oil. We package the products two ways black and white bottles each would mix."

I was told at the store Red line had repackaged the product. Wrong, and the black bottles cost about $5 more.

Cheers!

did my 10k (11k really) with the Redline and Mobil 1 in the motor.  I had only run the bike for about 60-80 miles before I changed the fluids (previous owner my dad ran mobil 1 in all three), but the difference in the Redline stuff was very noticeable.

I run the new Primary stuff which is like the MTL.  And the shockproof in the tranny.  Still Mobil 1 in the motor and will stay that way.

Typically oils referred to as V-twin oil is made to handle higher heat and has different additives than standard oils.

THE DAWG

Hey DAWG, I am using Redline in the primary and trans and have been since 1st fluid changes ( Amsoil and royal purple in the engine).  I was up at Zippers on Tuesday picking up a USB to serial cable for the new GEN2 ECM and noticed they had redline in stock.  Decided to pickup 2 quarts, couldnt remember which type for primary and trans so I asked, thats where I ran into issues. They recommended the motorcycle or black quarts (I had been using the white bottles). When I got home UPC codes didnt match up so I put this post out and also found an old email that I had sent to Redline a few years back and got a reply back about mixing the partical qts I had left over.  Thanks all!
