New SERK...but I am scared!
« on: September 11, 2008, 12:17:25 AM »

I was thrilled to get my new (to me) 08 SERK.

But after reading the problems people are having with these bikes, I fear that I have made a very expensive mistake.

Have I?  :nervous:

Is it a late production 08 or something from earlier in the model year?  Go to HD's website under the service and maintenance section and plug in your VIN.  It'll tell you if the recalls apply.  If it's a very early production 08 get the crank run out checked too.  You'll still have warranty remaining.  So if there is a problem fix it, ride it and keep smiling.  If it fails again (as some have) then rinse and repeat.

Welcome to the site. Not everyone is having problems with their motors so don't let it bother you. Trust me, you'll love the bike once you really start riding it. There are fixes out there for most of the problems so enjoy and only worry about how much $$ your going to spend buying more chrome.

Do you actually have any problems right now? If not, do not worry, just enjoy this fine bike. If problems should occur, this is the site offering solutions.
Ride safely,
Louis

We have just spent the last 5 weeks in America, myself on an 07 SERK and my buddy on an 08 SERK. We covered nearly 17,000 mile between us in that time with no issues at all.

Don't be scared.

Welcome to the site from western NY!  :cherry:  That's a great bike.  Do what TwoLane said and don't worry about a thing but how much fun it is to ride.

Welcome aboard.  I have a 2008 SERK and lovin it.   :huepfenjump3:
I recommend buying a Super Tuner and have the dealer tune the bike to run richer and that should cool it down significantly (under $600) and much more comfortable to ride.
My SERK runs cooler than my 05 RK classic and very comf. to ride on hot days.  :2vrolijk_21:
