Yesterday I recieved a package from H-D with a letter from Jim McCauslin and a "limited edition" book on the Harley-Davidson Archives.  Nice book, I flipped through it last night.  The letter said it was their way of thanking me for my patience with the issues the '08 SEs have had.  It also said there was a no cost upgrade that I can have done within the next two years.  I believe this is the service bulliten that I already had done.  A
Anyone else get this package?

NICE! I have been keeping a registry of these things for about 12 years or so. If you don't mind, I'd like to get your name, bike VIN, and where you are, if I don't already have it. I'm at  toebo1@aol.com    Through the years I've found less than 50 of these things. Rare bird!

Too bad the letter didn't have a real apology, as in "We are sorry we lied to all of you for two years before our lawyers convinced us we had to do something to avoid a major PR and legal catastrophe".  It would have also been nice if they had included something like "To show our appreciation for your patience and support, we are extending your factory warranty from two years to five years on the 110 engine".

Oh well, I guess a little pseudo apology and a book after two years of BS is better than nothing.  Hasn't changed my mind about a future purchase, however.

Jerry, that sounds like it would be the right thing to do!  Stop it, I spilled my drink laughing.

I got mine yesterday when I got home.  The "letter" posted in this thread was inside the box.

I agree, it's a very nice book and a nice gesture, but it seems that the way the MOCO has treated this whole leak problem is still beyond imagination.  "What leak"....  This went on WAY too long without any acknowledgement from them that there is a problem, "we don't know how to fix it yet, but we're trying lots of different things, be patient with us and we'll get this fixed."  If this had come out of Milwaukee, I think a lot of the guys that have had the problems would have at least been reassured that they know about it and they're trying to fix it.

For me, my bike was an '07 November bike and I have the metal gaskets and I have not leaks yet.  I've got over 5,000 miles now and did the PCM/pipes/AC in mid December with about 1,000 miles on it.  So I did ride quite a bit without any enhancements, but the weather was cool so I'm sure my motor did not see all the heat that others had seen.

So anyway, the book is nice.  I am a bit disappointed that even though it says something about CVO on the cover, there is VERY little on the CVO's in the book.

I'm through now...

UPS delivered my book a few days ago.  I opened it and the cover has a large ding/tear in it.  Seems somehow appropriate.

I got my book and the letter yesterday...

 :soapbox:
The book is thick enuff that I could put it on my seat for insulation from the engine-generated heat.
The letter was used to wipe the dipstick whilst checkin my oil....

Got my book from Fedex yesterday.  Just so happens that my bike is in the shop for the "product improvement program".  I guess I can look at the book until I get my bike back.

It does look good on the coffee table.

Got it today. I've paid real money for books not as nice as this one. It is kind of nice to get a little recognition from MOCO.
