AJ,

Dennis worked with me for several years with the State.  I agree, he was a fine human being.  He was probably one of the most kind hearted people I've known in my life.  It's so devastating that he died in the manner that he did.  Thank you for being his friend.  We were fortunate to have been part of his life.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your friend. Reading the various blogs with the article, it sort of leads you to think the lady driver was busy on the cell phone or texting and/or just flat out missed that he was stopped for construction.
Damn shame.......

Thank you everyone for your condolences and kind words. I spoke with Dennis' niece this afternoon. To say that it was a difficult conversation is an understatement. The family has said that there will be a memorial service on October 4th in Beaufort and I will print a copy of this for them.
Dennis told a mutual friend just a few weeks ago that if he ever died on his motorcycle, to know he died doing something he loved.

I hope y'all allow me some latitude and post some emails that I have received.

 Ellen

To all of you and Dennis' family our deepest sympathy.  I feel fortunate that I was able to meet Dennis and feel that I had a great friend.  I know that we gave him his USRN wings but now as bad as it hurts he now has the greatest wings that he could have.  He is now our Motorcycle Guardian Angel.  I know that he will always be the wind that is brushing our faces as we ride and he will be there to protect us from harm.

I am sure that he would tell all of us that he went out of this world doing what he loved….. Riding his motorcycle and enjoying life.

Tell all of my friends that I said Hello and please come back to see us.  Let me know the funeral arrangements.

 Sincerely

Sylvia Cochran"

"Please go to our website, www.savannahhog.com and click on photo's to see pictures of Dennis.

Mike,

Please share the website with the group as I have posted a folder with photos of Dennis from some recent rides. He will be missed as he was a heck of a guy. It was great getting to know him this year on our Thursday Retiree's Rides.

What a damn awful shame.  He was new to getting back to riding and was doing nothing wrong when he was hit.  I'm praying for his family.

I'm so sorry to hear about Dennis.  I've said the very same thing many times, just take comfort in knowing he meant what he said.

Dennis Hammer was a kind, compassionate person who was always there to help & listen.  Dennis rode with the Savannah HOG Chapter as well as the Thursday Retired HOG Riders, many times riding from Beaufort to Savannah only to double back and ride to Charleston & back. He loved to ride and ride he did.  You always knew when Dennis was in sight as his "sidecar" gave him away. He volunteered at all the HOG events.  Dennis really lived a full life, experiencing the good with the bad and making the best of both.  His friends will miss him dearly but will remember him forever. He's in a better place of peace and serenity. May he be at peace with himslef and his God for he was an honorable man.  AND may the person who brought Dennis to his final chapter be forever grateful that there are so many of us willing to fogive such an unthoughtful act in the name of the Lord.

I'm so sorry to hear about this tragic accident. Sounds like Dennis was a stand up guy and well loved. He will be missed by many people. May his love for riding and his love he showed his brethren be lived out thru all of those who knew him. God's Sweet Love to you and his family!
