my take from coming off a 07 road glide is this.. the only thing familiar is the fairing out in front of you.. the 09 is a complete differant bike. this is due to the frame, larger engine, wheels tires brakes.. its got more of a sport bike feel to it.. it also has more viberation. the bars are pretty good & the seat is getting better. the 07 was a smoother ride, don't turn, & a lot less fun factor..

the pros on the 09.. looks, ride, power (for a stock hd) brakes.

the cons paint is terrible ( orange peel) radio SUCKS. viberation,  sound (exhaust)

would I do it again...?  I cant think of anything i would rather own.

As with every Harley that I have owned, the seat is uncomfortable and the handlebars do not have enough pullback - it is something that I have come to expect to replace. I will be installing Wild1 517's and a Corbin Classic Solo with passenger touring pillion.

The fly-by-wire throttle is very sensitive and takes some time to get used to it, the slightest turn of the throttle and it takes off and when the throttle is released it is "off" and deceleration comes unexpectedly. It is difficult for me to explain but the bottom end of the throttle seems very touchy to me compared to a cable throttle.

The suspension seems a bit hard on the country roads so I am going to install the 12" chrome Arnott Aldan Air Suspension System. I just received the Arnott shocks earlier this week and I am putting them on in the next few weeks.

The stock 6" windshield (IMO) is designed for looks only and isn't effective at all. My wife thought the stock windshield was awful and refuses to ride on the bike with the stock windshield ever again. After testing several windshields, I have been riding the last few days with a 10" Cee Bailey's dark grey windshield and it seems to provide just the right amount of protection for me and the aesthetics of the windshield is still acceptable. I also have the Clearview 11.5” light tint windshield that I intend to use during the cooler months along with the fairing lowers.

The stock speakers really aren’t that great - expect to replace them, I installed J&M Road Glide speakers and am happy with the sound for now. I have been told from riding partners that the LED brake lights are very noticeable, so no problems there. The paint really comes to life in the sunshine and the graphics look really good, but there is a lot of orange peel.

Cornering…this bike loves the corners! It feels really stable and accelerating through the corners is a lot of fun. I have not felt that I have been close to scraping the saddlebags or the floorboards, all is well - the 18’ wheels probably help here. On the highway, the bike is absolutely smooth, the balance is excellent, I can engage the cruise control and ride with no hands and continue in a straight line easily.

With the 18” wheels, the short jiffy kickstand makes the bike lean over to the left more than necessary so picking it up off the kickstand is a little heavy at times. I might consider putting on a standard length jiffy stand.

The engine feels really strong and there seems to be plenty of power but the transmission seems a bit loud, although I have not noticed a difference with transmission noise in 5th gear, there just seems to be a slight whine noise through all on the gears. Once I upgrade the exhaust, the transmission noise will become a non-issue. Neutral is easy for me to engage. The engine puts off a lot of heat and can be downright uncomfortable in city traffic and I will probably have to install mid-frame air deflectors to see if that helps. Hopefully, the aftermarket manufacturers will come out with true duals before too long and I intend to install the Super SERT to help cool the engine down. A louder exhaust will also cover up the noise from the air being sucked into the air cleaner.

Hey guys, I just did my first long distance ride, well only about a 500 mile round trip ride.  On Friday we went up to the Gatlinburg TN which is about a 220 mile trip.  Spent the night and crossed the smokies the next day to Knoxville to see the Gators walk over the Vols, sorry Vol fans! Spent the night in Gatlinburg again and woke up this morning to come home.  The wind on Friday beat the crap out of us!  Definitely thought about finding a better shield while in the knoxville area, but I decided to just go with it.  It wasn't too bad after a while, I have the 8" Klock Werks.  The radio was fine, just as long as your listening to your Ipod or CD.  If you have the just the radio on, it sux!  My wife enjoyed the ride and never complained! :laugh4:  She loved going through the mountains as much as I did.  The seat was comfy, we stopped a couple of times on Friday and only once on the way back.  Performance was great, handling was great, breaking was great, no complaint other that the windshield.  I have a tad over 1k now and taking her in for the 1k service on Thursday, I will do belray for the tranny and another synthetic for the engine, maybe royal purple or something.

It got a lot of looks while we were up there.  No complaints, I'm still lovin it and ridin with a smile.

I talked to a guy this weekend riding the 09 SERG. he had traded in his 08 SEUC. His comments to me were about the transmission gear ratio. He said that the 09 6th gear was more "useable". Apparently the 6th gear on previous years were to tall.

I was in doubt with the first few posts on this thread, but it's coming around now. Typical H-D; CVO or otherwise. You've got to personalize it for it to be just what you wanted. I look forward to hearing from Big Moose H-D in Portland Maine when they have a shipping date for my O/B/S

Spidey;
Yea, that was probably me on Scripps Poway Parkway...Breaking it in.  But then again, I heard someone else that may live in Poway bought a silver one from Temecula...or he might have just been passing through!  I live on the other side of town off of Pomerado just south of Abraxxas School.

Another note for the tranny...  I remember seeing an 07 (96cu) go into 6th at 65 and it was a dog.  With this one, 6th gear at 60 and if you hit the throttle, it goes!  Was expecting the dog action.  Just changed out the baffles and will see how it runs before doing a SEST.  A little more growl now but not too loud and the J & M speakers are great!

Do you ever stop at O'Harley's (in the Walmart lot off Community) ?

No, I stopped going over in that area after the hobby shop and haircut place moved.  Not much of a bar guy.

Then you're missing out on some of the best Italian food in San Diego. Mama Russo (the owner's mom) came here from Italy on a boat 50 years ago and knows how to cook Italian. She even made me and Bubba_T Linguini with white clam sauce when it wasn't on the menu. Her Chicken Marsala is for the gods. Tony (her son, the owner) features her food at dinner (early evening) the rest of the time it's your basic pub food.

Finally I get to add my $.02. I picked up my SERG 4 days ago and the weather has been pretty good for this time of year in Alberta. I only just got out today for a good ride (700kms). Maybe I'm not as educated as many of you but I love this bike. I have owned a 81 FXWG, 92 FLSTC, 97 FLSTF but no baggers.  This bike is everything I hoped for and much more. The paint is very good, maybe a little orange peel on the front fender, but the scheme is pretty cool. The motor is awesome, I'll be cruiseing at 100KMS and before I know it I'm doing 140 and moving in on 160. I'm still getting used to the 6 speed, the throttle by wire and the ABS. My only complaint is the lame exhaust and the too low windscreen. Both easy fixes. I give this bike two thumbs up :orange:
