Picked up my new SEUC
« on: September 20, 2008, 01:56:09 AM »

I did an impulse buy last week and sold my 06 SEUC to a buddy for 22k and went and purchased an 09 the Orange and Autumnwood. My wife didnt really like it until she saw it in the sun, I was really pleased with the amount of sparkle coming thru.
We took the bike up the Ca. Coast last week and I have to say I was nothing but pleased. It handled great riding up highway 1 along the coast, floats thru corners very smoothly, the 110 pulls and pulls and when you get on the throttle there is plenty of juice.
So far the only things I can complain about is the bike seems to lean over farther than the 06 and takes a little more umph to pull up off the kickstand, and there is a whine in 5th gear I have read others here saying the same thing. At the dealer the bike did not have the highway pegs on it and at first the dealer told me I was going to have to pay for them. I told them the pegs were distinctly shown on the bike on the HD website and should be part of it. They called Harley and apparently are suppose to have them on, so they ordered me a pair and they immediately went on back order. I am suppose to recieve them mid Oct.
I am tryng to decide whether to leave the stock pipes on or not. It is really quiet, but here in SOCal the police are starting to crack down on loud pipes, there are some communities on the coast that we dont ride thru for just that reason. It is nice to be running 85 down the freeway and the stereo be as clear as a bell.
I had vance and hines slip ons true duals and a race tuner on the 06 SEUC and really liked them. We were lane sharing in some thick traffic in LA last weekend and I would usually rev the engine as I came up between the cars and they would part on the 06, but the 09 just doesnt have any growl when you revv up the engine.
I understand that the dealers will no longer put race tuners on here in Ca. What are people using, Power commanders? Can someone please explain to me the differance. I know it is just a matter of time before I change out the pipes. So anyone with an 09 that has changed out the pipes please let me know what you did.
The bike ran hot but not much hotter than the 06. The best thing I like is having a full size tour pak. That leather pak drove me crazy It was just not large enough , you couldnt get a lid organizer to fit. We travel alot, so space is precious. WE ride 15 to 18K a year. I have been very pleased with the stock seat on this bike. It is very comfortable. We rode 185 miles before we stopped for a break and my rear was just fine. I have 2000k on the bike but I guess we will have to wait a while until this group of bikes get some miles on the engines before we see if the MOCO has fixed any of the problems that plagued the 07 and 08 models.

I picked up my SE Ultra on 9/21 at Bob Drons/Oakland, CA and it was no impulse buy, been bugging them for 4 weeks now :-)

I had an '03 Ultra that I loved, had 45K miles on it but there is no comparison to this '09. The ABS is an unbelievable upgrade and the overall handling is much improved too. Dittos on the 5th gear whine, 1st has a touch of that too.

The stock pipes HAVE TO GO! This bike is incredibly beautiful, theres no reason for it to sound like a Yamaha. I'm also interested in hearing from '09 Ultra SE owners that have upgraded their exhaust - what did you go with?

I just found out about this site from a friend that rode with a group of CVO owners, I look forward to posting some pics and learning from others experiences.

Cheers

OK I will try to upload some pictures today. I am in agreement the stock pipes have to go It was just flat embarrassing while lane sharing and revving the throttle and hearing zoom zoom instead of a growl. No wonder the little oriental lady flipped me a bird and didnt move over haha. I was talking to the dealer yesterday and he told me they didnt have any after market pipes out yet to fit the bike. I don't know but as soon as they are available I will be getting some. I have used Vance and Hines basic slip ons on the Road King and I had the on my 06 SE ultra I really like them.
Can you all tell me the difference between the Harley SE race tuner and the Power commander. When I redid my 04 Road King to a 95 with 211 cams High, and compression heads The dealer was insistant that the Race tuner was the way to go, then when I got the SE Ultra 06 it was the same thing, but Now he is telling me the Power commander is the way to go. Something tells me it used to be that he did not carry the PC and pushed the Harley prodduct and nowe is carrying the PC.
With all the changes in the EPA crap her in Ca. The dealer won't do near as much modification work to an engine as he used to.
The bike continues to run fine and I am continually looking for oil around the heads as I have heard that the 07 and 08 models had been plagued with engine problems

and my favorite, back to a full size tour pack. While I thought the leather one on my 06 looked good, I just couldnt make room for all my "stuff" and a man has got to have his "Stuff" when he travels
