I have gone dead twice now. [smiley=thumbsdown.gif]  I first thought it was a loose battery cable, but the second time it went dead the cable was tight. Last time it started running realy rough , then it  won't hold idle , then dies and nothing works at all .......I mean no power to anything. After a couple minutes it springs back to life like nothing happened.......  Any ideas?

I have had similar problems on 2 other bikes. In both cases it was a bad battery. The battery checked out o.k. and would even hold a charge. Changed it and never had the problem again in both cases.

So did you get this fixed or not. Check that harness I mentioned behind the left saddle bag.

LeRoy,  I had something similar happen to a 99 Wide Glide.  Motor would just cut off going down the road and then would start back up.  Found it to be a coil going bad.  Replaced coil, never happened again.

89 EVO same thing, tach would go to 0 coast for a while or pull over and it would start up. Replace the coil and never had a problem again.

Hi Leroy,
I'm just now hooking up to this site, and it seems to be great for all the tech feedback, for problems that we seem to run into. I've run into a few riders at Laconia this year that were talking of the same problem, dying out but still having radios and others electrical equipment available, they found there power commander to be the reason. Dont know much more than that unfortunately.   Mark

BIKE DIED,KILLED BATTERY,SPEEDO,TACH HEADLIGHT AND 3 FUSES-ALL WERE REPLACED BY DEALER BUT 40 AMP MAXI FUSE WAS LEFT ON BIKE- A 05 SEEG. HAS THIS ISSUE OF MAXI FUSE VERSES CIRCUIT BREAKER CHANGED W/ 05 OR DID DEALER NOT TAKE CARE OF AS REQUIRED.

The circuit breaker issue does not affect 2005 models - we all have fuses rather than breakers.

Hi Mark, welcome.

Unfortunately I dont run a power commander...just the stage 1 download pipes and breather SE kit.

I cant explain it at all....have a very hard time going to the goofs at the dealer.

Thanks  Loose Goose, I do appreciate the welcome !
And oh ya do I love mine [smiley=biggthumpup.gif] Now I've got 3 Harleys, But this one is my everyday bike. 1999 Heritage (real sweet ride)  2005 Sportster 1200C thats just to much fun on the real twisty roads. And I still have my 1970 Triumph Trophy that is now retired and sits in the garage for a future rider (my son) Had it since it was new and will always have it.
I am very impressed with the site and wish that I found it when I bought mine 1-9-04, it would have helped me then to figure out what I would have gone with for my changes, but I think that I made good choices so far (except for the Rhineharts True Duals) those are coming off for Thunderheaders faulse dual 2:1.
Well it's a beautiful day on Cape Cod so im outta here for a ride !!

Leroy,
Well that blows that out of the equation !!
Tell ya what, I will say that my dealer treats me like a king ( thank God) and Billy Miko is one of Harleys best mechanics( he'a been in American Iron Mag) several times, and always seems to be willing to talk to me regarding whatever issue comes up, so I'll ask him if he has any answers towards this.
I am pretty damn lucky that Pocasett H.D. is my dealer !
I'll let you know as soon as I can but hopefully you will already got that crap nailed and repaired so you can get out there and ride with no worrys ( cause its the best of the riding season right now)

I don't think it's the PCIII...  Mine did it twice before I got the PCIII and hasn't done it since I put it in...

Mine just quit.  no warning, riding down the highway both times, and just went silent...  resisted all attempts to restart until I came to a full stop, turned it off, (thinking I must have hit the switch or something), switched it on and it fired right up!  Nice deal, eh?

Bank angle sensor?

Is that the gismo that assists with cancelling the turn signal???  How would it relate to cutting off power to motor, etc???   Ya'll are scareing me with these horror stories......tell me that there's not some consistant electrical malady in these bikes that's gonna get us all killed in the fast lane on the interstate at night between those 80mph dump/log trucks...........now I'm really scared !!!    [smiley=nervous.gif]  spyder

No the signal control module and the bank angle sensor aren't the same beastie.  The bank angle sensor is supposed to, among other things, kill the engine if the bike falls over (so the engine will be shut off if you lay the bike down in an accident).  So it can and is supposed to cut the engine off so might be a cause for the case described above where the engine just died; for the prior postings where someone had everything go dead the angle sensor isn't the culprit.
