After reading this thread I decided to spring for the extended warranty. I was not happy with the conversation. The dealer said the warranty was $1850, no discounts available, price set by Harley. And I thought I read that this was a third-party warranty? He said it is Harley and work has to be done by Harley.

What is the real story? Also, should I get it or wait to see if I can buy it from another dealer later? He knows he has me by the short curlies...

More dealer BS!!! It can be discounted, but must be bought thru HD. Any participating shop that can administer the ESP for the insurance co can perform the work. Lied to by the dealer? Hmmm. That doesn't happen, does it? I'd be outta that place in a flash! ::) ;D

FTD!!! ;)

Thanks, Hoist...

Can't walk out, unfortunately, because I am getting the orange SERG on Friday. Too hard to find another one. Plus he is selling at MSRP. I figure I'll try and negotiate when sitting down with the Finance guy...

Buy the bike from him if that's the bike you want (it is at MSRP :2vrolijk_21:), then shop around for the ESP. No matter where you get it, it will be honored at dealerships.

You can buy the extended warranty at any dealership...  Chicago HD generally has good prices on extended warranties...

Hoist,

Just curious.  Can you buy the ESP thorough a dealer other than the one you bought the bike from?

Yes, it's worth the piece of mind, if anything.  Get the Wheel/Tire road hazard warranty too.  That's the best money you'll spend.  No matter what happens to your tires/wheels, they will be replaced free of charge.   (Tires have to have usable tread life on them though when the damage happened.)  I've had three tires replaced under the warranty, so they've paid for themselves.  I have both the ESP and the Wheel/Tire Warranty on both my SEUC and my Street Glide.  Got the ESP for the Street Glide through Jenni at Tri-County HD for 20% off.  You can get the ESP with no surcharge up to 90 days or 2000 miles after you bought the bike.  After that and up to the end of your factory warranty, there is a $150 surcharge added on.

This was a no brainer to me. Ride it for almost 2 years and before the factory warranty runs out add the ESP for only $150 more than it would have cost you to begin with. Chances are you may trade it by then anyway....well, chances are "I" may trade it by then anyway! :cucumber:

You have 90 days or 2,000 miles to decide on the ESP and it will cost you the same as if you bought it on day 1.

Any Harley dealer can sell you the ESP not just the one you bought the bike from, and it will be honered by all Harley dealers if you need some work done down the road.

If you don't want to spend the money now you have until your factory warranty expires to still buy the ESP but it will cost you $150 more than if you got it in the first 90 days of ownership, provided the warranty prices don't go up in those 2 years of course. A small price to pay for a 2 year wait.

The only good thing about buying it now is that the tire and wheel coverage starts right away, if you decide to buy that too.

Harley has suggested prices on the ESP like on everything else, but some dealers offer the warranty at a discount, like 20% off.

Call Jenni  ;)

Just an FYI that surcharge will be $150 over the current price of the ESP. If the price goes up then you pay the higher price plus the $150 surcharge. Don't want people to be confused when the get a quoted price for an ESP, wait and over time inflation has made the price go up they aren't locked into the initial price.
