I bought the extended warranty but got so fed up with all chit going wrong and the bike being in the shop so much I sold the bike and got my money back from the extended warranty. I HIGHLY recommend buying the warranty if you have a 110 .

In Vegas even the  Blackjack dealers will tell you -------never buy insurance! Its a bad bet. I go with take the money and put it in an investment. Do it now before you buy anything else and when you need it your money will have grown to the point you can use some of it for repairs.I don't personally have any experience with this cause I have never bought one , but for those of you who have high deductibles I still think my advice is sound. If you add the part you have to pay(deductible) with your premiums for any length of time you aren't far from having enough to buy an entire motor if you lose one. Then you aren't bothered with the headache of fighting with the dealership or warranty people about what they cover etc. Thats time you could be spending out riding or something fun.

You know this post made me stop and think. If H-D paid out more than they took in on the ESP then they'd either jack the rates or they wouldn't offer it. I don't know much about the insurance game so I can't tell you what rate of return is considered acceptable and what isn't, but I'm guessing that it's the high side of 50%. Of course since I ALWAYS lose in Vegas, I'd have to buy the insurance, but it does seem that the odds must favor the house or they wouldn't sell it

We purchased ESP on wife's 04 RK just before factory warranty expired. Now 2 years after purchasing the ESP, we finally need it for a $305 repair.
So, get this... dealer tells us HD can't find any record of our purchasing the plan. WTF? Fortunately we have the original paperwork, signed by dealer employee. They now want to see the canceled check, which we're probably going to get from the bank, but even if we couldn't, the dealer indicates they would make good (some way). If you get ESP, KEEP ALL YOUR PAPERWORK! chit happens.  :confused5:
Paid $1,600 for 7 years (actually 5 additional years). Now 3 years remaining, first claim of $305... so far, HD is ahead.
Got it on the 04 pumpkin; same scenario, just before factory warr expired... cost about the same, have saved easily 3 times the cost of ESP on repairs on that bike... head gasket, starter, tranny leak, radio (if I ever get it back), etc... So far, I'm ahead.

Looks like ESP is necessary for CVOs but not so much on standard models?

So if you'd put $1,600 into a CD with a rate of return say 3.5%, where would you be at now ?

Depends on if you invested with Fannie or Freddie--------Just kidding! I wouldn't put it in a CD ---Maybe gold when it was low or if you have a portfolio already add to it. My thinking is if you have a 1500 -2500 deductible then take that and add the cost of the premium to it and voila ------you have a pretty good chunk of change towards some costly repairs. If you are financing the insurance you can save even more by not doing that if you can just take the cash value of the entire premium up front and invest it also. If you are financing the premium with your bike purchase your insurance is costing interest along with your bike the whole time you own it. Thats one of the big ways dealerships make money off the sale of the insurance.I understand lots of people finance the bike insurance and all at the time of purchase but if you can keep from doing that its the best way to go.You are just paying as you go for a problem  that you may or may not have later. With the history of the 110's so far you have to consider all your options.

Brian, you're right; The $1,600 is 'gone' unless and until you start having warranty repairs. You are 'prepaying' for warranty work.
On wife's bike we're behind with the ESP, so far. After 2 years we'd have had $1,714 in the bank to pay the $350.
On the pumpkin, however, paying $1,600 for close to $4,000 in repairs so far, seems OK.
Am I figuring this right? Win some, lose some? :nixweiss:

This advice of investing the money might not be the best answer , look at the stock market and you can figure it out on your own.Put in $5000 get back $2000 maybe. Look at the 110 record , Do you think we have seen it all yet? Don't think so!

EXCEPT for Ultra's I think warranties are a waste on HD's.  On Ultras to cover the electronics, seems like it's a good bet to take the "don't pass" line (as in craps)

For non-CB Radio'ed bikes (ie, all the rest) take the 1600 or 1800, stick it in the bank or whatever helps you sleep better at night, and use it to upgrade the engine in the 25th month of ownership.  It'll be a nice down payment on the things the MoCo could / should have done in the first place.

I skipped the warranty with basically that plan in mind.  At 15 months now, I'm going to start making my wish list over the winter to be ready at the end of the 09 riding season....

I do have the 110 and I have been hearing horror stories. $1750 for 7 years of piece of mind might be a wise investment.

The above pricing is for Canadian buyers Jenni can not sell US ESP to su up here in Canada, and that price is lisi, I think it includes the tire & wheel ESP, however not sure.

You guys should rent a small corner in one of Roger Jobs' dealership garages and us it as a US address.

So who, or what, is Jenni S?
Also, is there any other extended warranty insurance available from other than H-D?
My 110 is such a POS I can't imagine going past the 24 month warranty period. Won't buy another first year model from H-D and not ready, quite yet, for a Goldwing.   :huepfenlol2:
