Lower Fairings for 2009 CVO's
« on: October 01, 2008, 06:36:20 PM »

First post ,Newbie,my business partner and I ordered a silver and an orange SERG from our local dealer and also ordered chopped tour paks, lower fairings and hardware .The silver bike came in last week but the orange is not due until December ,we were told by the parts manager today that the lowers were not available in cvo colors and we could not order the paint for a cvo bike from the mfg or through the parts dept.We own a collision repair shop and have not had any luck in the past duplicating exact colors match's since they protect most all formulas and paint mfg's.The tour paks are not a problem,am I missing something?

I think a few members have ordered the Vivid Black lowers for the orange bikes. The Vivid Black matches the black on the bike.

i have a funny feeling the tourpaks and lowers will appear mysteriously with the '10 SERG

there have been a lot of folks here who have had success in matching paint

good luck, and welcome!

I fully expect the tour paks to be part of the 2010 models Scot.  But not the lowers.  The Road Glides get hot behind the lowers when the weather is even just good and warm outside.  Heat is already such an issue with the 110s that I'd not be surprised if they never offer lowers just to keep the heat down.

You got that right Don. Hotter than hell. I have a pair of the H-D fabric rain shields that slip over the front engine guard and the work superbly. IMO however, the 09 SERG is perfect as delivered Never thought I'd say that about any MoCo bike, but looks wise, they really got it right this time

oakmtnbody,

PPG supplies the paint for the CVO and standard Harleys.  Check with your PPG supplier or rep and have him get the codes for all the 2009 SERG colors....then post the codes back here for all of us to see/use.

Thanks!

Good luck with that.  Harley guards the CVO color mixture better than Kentucky Fried Chicken guards the 11 herbs and spices recipe.   When I had my Jester in for repairs to the fairing, the shop that I had do the work (and they did an excellent job too) had to have a PPG rep come out from the Midwest to personally mix the colors for them.  He wouldn't give the shop the codes to mix the PPG paints because Harley will not release the CVO paint codes, not even to the dealers.  Try and get anything but a Touch-Up kit from the dealer for a CVO.  And guess what, the codes on the touch up bottles are not PPG paint codes, so they don't cross-reference to a paint that can be mixed.

You know I ran into H-D's East Coast Sales Manager at a 105th party at Big Moose H-D in Maine. The dealership had a big full color brochure of the entire CVO line-up. I don't recall ever seeing such a nice brochure devoted to just the CVO's. It's like the ones the dealers used to have for the entire line-up. Anyway, I had sat down over a burger and soda and poured over the pictures. I was awestruck with how much the CVO Road Glides resembled the discussions we'd had on this forum about what we all dreamed of the MoCo making. When I met the guy from the MoCo, I told him about the site and said, " It's obvious you guys log onto our website because the 09 Screamin Eagle Road Glide is everything we all dreamed of "  He played coy, but I could tell he was fully aware of CVOHarley.com. He thanked me for the compliment and we talked about the bike for awhile because Big Moose did not have one on the showroom floor. He gave me some insight into how it came to be what it is, and one of the things he mentioned is how the owners of the orginal 4 CVO Road Glides all complained of the heat issue with the lowers. Given the lengths H-D went to in 09 to address heat on the rider's and passenger's legs, I can see why they would leave off the lowers. As to not having a tour-pak, he mentioned because I said I was from the San Diego area that the biggest design cue on the 09 SERGs is the slammed look that comes from the Low-Rider cars and a lot of the slammed down baggers you see in SoCal. Anyway, the old saying "be careful what you wish for" certainly applies here. It would seem we got the bike we wished for. Now if we wish to change it, it's up to us. For my own sake, IF , I am lucky enough to buy an 09 SERG, it's not getting any lowers or a TP.

Just my $0.02

I agree...it's GOD's answer to that sucky Street Glide!  But unfortunately a tour pack is required for some long distance riding with the missus.  When she first rode on the back, she was so used to our other RG that she said she felt vulnerable.  I reminded her that not so long ago she was having the time of her life on the back of the Dyna.  I said she was spoiled....

Here's a pic of my bike with the vivid black lowers.  I thought about orange, but the more I though about it vivid black is probably the best for the O/B bikes.  The bottom half of the tank, the fender, saddlebags, etc. is vivid black.  Black lowers balance the bike out.  They will also be easier to touch up if they get chipped.  You can get the vivid black paint anywhere.  Orange would have to be custom matched.  MoCo does not sell the CVO paint or disclose the color mix.

The black does seem to just roll from the front fender along the tank to the side covers and saddlebags.  Nice choice :2vrolijk_21: .
