Actually, my Christmas present for many foreseeable Christmas seasons is coming together right now..................and since I just found out today that Thump's crank is shot (rod bearings), I'm pretty sure I'm covered for birthdays until well past age 50.  I'm really glad I'm on the road right now.  Just told "Santa" about the crank.

She's livid.   :(
Sorry to hear that Henry  :( ....but I know you'll get er back together better than before!!  :2vrolijk_21:

Well, I don't have a CVO or a HD, but the new bike will probably see a Corbin heated Dual Tour seat sometime this winter (my ass misses the Corbin, and will soon miss the heat), a t-bag or equivalent, and a K&N A/F too.  New grips may be needed as well, and braided stainless clutch/brake/throttle cables 2" over.  I already have a couple of do-dads to put on, but haven't gotten to them yet.

Hoppe is making a nice fairing with JBL stereo for the Stratoliner now, so that may be in the bike's future, but not by Christmas.
How many miles on the new bike, Terry?  How does she ride?

How many miles on the new bike, Terry?  How does she ride?

Scott...Only about 700 and change.  Just got the first service done...changed to Amzoil.  Will pick the bike up in the AM after being in the shop for a couple of weeks.  Most bizare thing...started noticing a bit of popping noise in the steering when the bike had been ridden for a few miles then stopped..mostly when I was backing into the basement after riding it home from work.  Long story short...dealer ordered neck bearings, they came in, took it apart to do the work, and found the stem threads were stripped!  Must have been done in the original assembly.  Extremely unusual, so the part was not readily available, but they got it in yesterday and got right on it, so it's ready to go again.  Dealer, thus far, has been very cooperative...they replaced a $375 fender stay that was scratched, but had not been noticed until the detachable rack/sissy bar was removed.  Chit happens when a bike gets passed from one dealer to the next because it didn't sell at the original dealership.  New bike, but 2 years old.  So, even the Japs screw up too...

Did get a new Rifle windshield in light gray tint put on....MUCH improvement over stock, and I can now see over the top.  Bike has LOTS of TQ...will light up the rear tire from 1st to second at 2500rpm.  Gets about 42mpg...cruises at about the same rpm as the SEUC did, so that feels familiar to me. Top end noise, like a HD.  Feels good at about 75mph.  My short arms are going to require me to get some new risers to move the bars back a couple of inches...the bike is actually longer than my Ultra was, it seems.  But very balanced.  About .75 gallons are carried below the seat...reserve tank.  Top tank holds 4 gallons.

First small road trip Saturday/Sunday for a 400 or so mile round trip...first real test of the seat comfort.  Looking forward to the ride though..it's been a while.  :2vrolijk_21:

My Christmas Dream is that Aetna Insurance accepts my disability retirement claim and I take my "go away" money from Bath Iron Works and use it to buy a gorgeous new 2009 Orange/Black Screamin Eagle Road Glide.

Chip, you have no idea.  I mean, a shot crank at my age is worse than just about anything else......especially when the rod base won't hold under pressure.  It's a sickening feeling.   :(

Yeah Charlie.  A flacid crank at 45 is a real bummer.

So how does this alter the rebuild?  Go ahead with Timken conversion since the cases will be cracked?  Other things in play?

. It means a new crank.  Timken was a foregone conclusion from the outset.  Cases were split to get to this point.
