I can give you some thoughts on PA and NJ sections:
I ride it whenver I go to Pittsburgh. The ride from Gettysburg is reasonably fast, without many lights and just a few quaint PA towns. However, there are about 40 miles of mountains that have few passing areas and the trucks who are not in a rush and want to avoid the turnpike tolls will sometimes run 30 and you can add a good 45 minutes to the ride. As a bonus, about half way between Gettyburg and Pittsburgh is the flight 93 memorial. There's a sign right on 30 for it.
If you elect to ride 30 east of Gettysburg it's lots of lights and medium size towns like York and Lanacaster and the traffic is heavy. Still some good diners and that type of place on it though. Obviously the highlight of that stretch is the York HD plant. Word of warning. In Lancaster county the piles of mud in the right tire lane... It's not mud.
East of PA in Hell Jersey the road sucks. It's all congested with tons of lights and fully commercialized with nothing but chain stores and restaurants. Obviously there must still be a few old time eateries but finding them behind all the megamarts is almost impossible. If you could see around the latest shopping center you probably still wouldn't be able to see over the lip of the pothole you just fell in. I avoide the Garbage State at all costs, and if forced to drive through it to get to the ocean, well I just try to close my eyes. LOL.
Oh, and before all you Jersey boys start yelling at me, I grew up in NJ, 200 yards off of Rt. 30 (The White Horse Pike) in South Jersey. Camden County. So I'm allowed to pick on it.
Ride Safe,
J-Carr
