I did a similar install. The deluxe neck cover does have some appeal. I'll keep it on, see how long it lasts.
The odd thing is, of all the parts I ordered from Kuryakyn, this cover had substance; has some weight or didn't feel cheap. And It wasn't, huh? Some of the other items were very cheap feeling. For example, I have wanted the Chrome Filler Panel for months now, and I retained and use my original leather bags. Three times I was referred to part number 1191 from the sales at Kuryakyn.
When it arrived, it still looked good to me. Upon installation, and it could not be installed as I was told, I discovered 2 things immediately: 1. the invoice declared country of origin for all parts ordered, nothing came from the USA, all China, Korea and Taiwan which leaves me with my mouth wide open, and 2. How cheesey the plastic chrome parts felt. Cheap is an understatement, never again is my remedy.
The neck cover is sweet still. The "forks not locking" problem and grinding on my (way too young for this grinding stuff) 08 SE RoadKing are gruesome and I wouldn't do it myself again.
