Rider Almost Down
« on: November 03, 2008, 08:33:20 AM »

Went on a ride Friday up to Estes Park, just outside Rocky Mountain Park, with some friends who's son was getting married there over the weekend. They were staying and I was coming back home to get my car and stuff for the wedding on Saturday. We had lunch then split up, I got to the next light, light turned green took off, and a car started to make a left turn in front of me. I didn't have my foot up to the back brake yet so I grabbed the front brake, wife screamed as the front end started to washout to the left. Just out of instint, I stuck my right leg down and let off the break. The car stopped, and the front end caught, we went right on by. My leg was screwed up, pulled into the next parking lot and got off, knee was killing me, but I could still walk so we got on and rode the 27 miles back down the canyon to our house. it was late Friday went to the hospital, now on crutches with a full leg brace on my right leg! Go to an orthopedic Dr today to find out what I did to it. Hobbled around on crutches all weekend at the wedding, but could have been worse!

Sux. Glad you avoided contact but just sux. Hope it's not too serious and you're getting around w/o the crutches soon.

Craig

Glad you and the wife didn't go down.
Could have been a lot worse.
Take it easy on the leg and hoping you recover quickly.

Glad you're not banged up too bad. Hope the knee is OK.  They don't like to operate on Knees.
Close calls are free experience, you always learn from them without paying the full cost.

Glad everone is OK. :2vrolijk_21: :2vrolijk_21:

Thanks guys!

I almost fell down the stairs twice with the crutches!!   :'(

Just called my backup for work to have him cover my sites while I'm at the Dr, he said that last week he had an accident on his bike broke two ribs! A car cut into his lane and he locked up the front brake, went down, he said that his helmet took a beating, but the ribs were the only major damage to him.

Glad to see that you were able to save it!  Like everyone else is saying, it could have been a lot worse.  The knee will heal.

Thanks, looks a lot better today, swelling is going down a lot today, yesterday was the first day I could keep it up and ice it down. No he headed on his way, he was in the way of the other cars headding the same way as us. I didn't hang around long eather, I got off the bike just long enough to make sure I could walk and hold up the bike. I wanted to get home before it stiffened up, we were about 40 minutes from home. Wen I got home I couldn't hardly get my leg over the bike, had to hang on the car to get to the house.

Hope your knee/leg is not messed up too bad.  Maybe just a bad sprain, with any luck.

Glad you did not crash - split second thinking saved you, even though your react time was short, it was good.   :2vrolijk_21:

Great wedding pics in the other thread, too!

Talon,
Glad you didn't go down. I hope the knee heals quickly. Close call are not fun, but better than the alternative.

Good job saving it!!

Motor Lessons handbook says when stopped, your foot should be holding the brake and bike should be in gear.
Having that foot ready to operate the brake makes sence in this incident huh?

I don't want a new bike yet but that ABS sure makes me think...........
