I actually drove tractor/trailer rigs for a few years while I was in school. No long distance, just drag & drop turn around from OKC to Dallas. All my truck driving was at night.
There are some truck drivers out there that have superior driving skills...... and if you are a truck driver - this probably doesn't apply to you, but during the three year period that I drove trucks, I met several truck drivers that I would not want to be within a mile of on the road. I met drivers that were so messed up that they couldn't hardly walk or talk. Some had been awake for days.
Then there are a few drivers out there that can't even handle a cage - and they are running down the road in a 18-wheel 70ft rig. Scary stuff!
I tell my wife and kids to never run beside a truck. I tell them if they need to pass a truck to speed up and get on around them and not to spend any time running beside them.
Like I said, there are a lot of good drivers out there driving trucks, but you have no way of telling which divers are the good ones and which are the bad ones.
