Ever Wonder about that Truck Passing You
« on: November 03, 2008, 03:52:38 PM »

In the mountains cruising along and some truck in a big hurry passes you.  Ever wonder if that trailer is coming over or that load of logs?

Shredded over the guard rail, with fatality unfortunately.  One reference said the guy had been driving fro only 9 days (unconfirmed).

I drove locally for 6 years or so, nothing scarier than a load shifting.

"Wrecked" on SPEED channel has some hairy situations with big rigs.

If I remember correctly there use to be a "Top End Kit" from one of the performance m/c venders called "Pass a Truck Kit". Consisted of heads, cams and exhaust.  :confused5: Anyone remember this.  :nixweiss:

That is right up the road up here on Donner Pass.  Pretty steep grade right there in that area (from 16' elevation to over 7,000' in eighty miles), could be that his brakes went.

That highway (I-80 West up by Colfax) is pretty bad but that particular curve has one of those large flashing signs beside the road posting the speed limit and telling you what your speed is.  It's the largest sign I've saw of that type.

I actually drove tractor/trailer rigs for a few years while I was in school.  No long distance, just drag & drop turn around from OKC to Dallas.  All my truck driving was at night.

There are some truck drivers out there that have superior driving skills...... and if you are a truck driver - this probably doesn't apply to you, but during the three year period that I drove trucks, I met several truck drivers that I would not want to be within a mile of on the road.  I met drivers that were so messed up that they couldn't hardly walk or talk.  Some had been awake for days.

Then there are a few drivers out there that can't even handle a cage - and they are running down the road in a 18-wheel 70ft rig.  Scary stuff!

I tell my wife and kids to never run beside a truck.  I tell them if they need to pass a truck to speed up and get on around them and not to spend any time running beside them.

Like I said, there are a lot of good drivers out there driving trucks, but you have no way of telling which divers are the good ones and which are the bad ones.
