Put them on mine and even did the installation, and I am definitly not mechanically skilled. After having my foot slip on gravel I was lucky enough to keep the bike up until my riding friends got me upright, cost of a new bag is over $1000,cost of saddle bag guard and new bag resting bracket,$207 not having a scraped up and broken motorcycle,PRICELESS. Am I seeing something in this thread that says I will need to replace the support bars the bags sit on?  I hope I am reading that wrong! [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

Yes sir,you are supposed to replace the chrome support rails with ones that are gloss black. After I had bought the new rails I did see that I could have cut the end of my current rail, drilled a hole and slide it into the saddle bag guard. I was afraid that maybe rust would set in if I did the drilling so I went ahead and put the new support rails on.

You do need notched filler strips too, I got a set on Ebay, havn't painted them yet just running without 4 now. Here is a shot of mine with nostalgic rails.

Only need the notched filler panels if you go with the full wrap-around guards.  Not required if you just add the front crash bar.

Hey Rhino, answer a question for me if you can.  You do need the notched filler strips if you're donig the nostalgic or any other of the side rails (if you're not the original filler strips are ok).  And I like the looks of the nostalgic side rails a lot.

My concern has been that with the saddle bag spoilers their harness disconnect (between the saddlebag and strut) is much easier to get to if you lean the bag outboard a bit.   Lifting it up wouldn't help.  Really needs to be leaned out a bit.

With the rails on would the bag still room to lean out some?

Food for thought for those you putting the bag gaurds on.
I did, without any problems until I was a little careless putting one of the bags on, or so I thought.

See the chip in the picture? that is from the bag hitting the cross bolt.

This can be easily rectfied though. Loosen the mounting brackets for the saddlebag retaining pins, and with the bag and pins in place wiggle the bag rearward a bit, check the clearence and then thighten the mounts back up.

Hope this helps prevent somebody from damaging the bag.
