Dechromeifitizification--new air cleaner cover
« on: November 14, 2008, 08:51:32 PM »

Ok, so it's just a cover and hardly worth a thread.  Especially when it takes all of five minutes to install.  But I'm a parts whore and can't help myself.  The first step is admitting you've got a problem (or something like that....).

So, in the spirit of can never have too much chrome unless there is an equally good option in red UPS delivered a little box this afternoon.

And along with the painted to match air cleaner cover was a replacement for the 2000 SERG specific one-off one year only warm fuzzy inducing VIN protected air cleaner trim.  It finished it off much better than just the red cover by itself.

Just guessing that the paint's right on the money, then, IMO, I like the silver trim ring much better than all red.

Ok.  Now have to go see how many knuckles and/or finger or other things I can break replacing the big torsion springs on the garage door.  One broke last night and can't even get the bikes back outside until get the damn things replaced.  Picked a pair up this afternoon.  If you hear something that sounds like a twolane crying like a little girl you'll know I screwed up  .

A little bit surprised but the paint really is a match.  I've bought a set of saddlebag lids (one new, one eBay) and they were dead on.  Saddlebag latches ordered new in the paint to match and dead on also.  Those were all luxury rich red.  Also got a set of lower fairing caps ($20 on eBay) in the midnight red that was only used for the 2000 SERGs or the 95th anniversary models.  And they're a perfect match also.  So far so good on the color matches.

And I agree completely on the trim.  The cover really needs it to break up the red field.  Without the round trim it's not too hot.  With it I quite like the change.

Will do guys.  Have (unfortunately) changed the damned things on other doors before.  And smashed knuckles doing so once.  By no means a veteran garage door repairdude.  But hopefully will get it done without breaking anything.

You're right on the noise too.  Was standing in the garage when this one broke last night.  Pushed the button for the opener so I could walk outside and when the damn thing went off I nearly had a potty accident!

Just don't let your punch slip out when winding the springs up good.  If it happens, the springs make a god awful sound unwinding.

The red air cleaner looks real nice.  Breaks up that side of the engine.     :2vrolijk_21:

Door done!  Slips, none!  Knuckles all good :2vrolijk_21: :drink: !!

Must have wound the new ones tighter than were the old ones.  Door works easier now.  Garage door opener almost pitched it in to the backyard ??? .

Thanks guys.  Once in awhile you get lucky and a little five minute parts change actually makes a nice difference :drink: .

Most amusing part of the parts process was the little center trim cost twice as much as the paint to match cover :huepfenlol2: .

That what I thought also Bob.  Does break it up on that side.  Since the engine will always be silver on this one it's nice to break it up in different ways.  Now I'm just wishing the MoCo offered painted to match horn covers to accomplish the same thing on the other side.
