Umm,

I thought all the threads on this site were random speculation.  I'm just saying...

Earlier on this page, you said you had a useless opinion, which I enjoyed reading.  If we had a Useless Opinions/Random Speculating/Idle Ramblings Section, it might be even more helpful than the current well defined sections which often include Hearsay, Poppycock, and Balderdash.   :nixweiss:

It's funny how during different times in one's life and interests, you'll see the magazine subscriptions change accordingly.

I was subscribing to V-Twin and Easyriders, but they run the same articles except for the girl pictures.  It was really like reading the same mag twice.  V-Twin is history in my house.

As to the "other" mags I still get, Playboy (really I get this for the article's :o  :o and at $9.95/yr it's a great buy), Easyriders, Hot Bagger, American Rider, Cycle World, Chevy High Performance, Car Craft, Hot Rod, Rod & Custom, Super Chevy and Streetrodder.  I'm letting the car mags expire on the subscriptions and crossing back over to the bike mags.  I'm not going to get this carried away in the bike stuff though.

The mag I really like is Barnett.  I love the pictorials and the quality of the spreads.  I'm not sure about the rest of you, but I read a magazine through once and skim through it for the highlights.  Then I read the major articles and then the editorials etc.  The last thing I do is the ads.  I go on line and check out different parts etc.  Once that's done I pretty much start over again.  I probably read the same magazine several times.  Between all the magazines I've collected over the last 10 years, I have about a 20' stack.  I've thought about giving them away, they're not worth anything from a $ standpoint, but for a rookie getting into something, reading several year old magazines are still pretty relevant, other than the ads etc.

I forgot Home Theater and National Geographics...

Sorry for rambling again.

That's a lot of time on the pooper to read all of those.

By the way, nice bike.  I'm not very far from you.  My boss is at Wentzville so I get there once in awhile.  I'll look you up next time I'm in the city.

I have plenty to post in Hearsay or balderdash as well, but poppycock is right out.  In sounds to painful to post there.  :D

One interesting change at my local dealer surprised me this week. That is for at least the past year whenever they were asked about the 110 problems they have uniformly answered "what problems", that changed to "we have fixed that, what you are hearing is about a very few of the early motors". The surprising one I got this week was when I was asked what I'd decided about the 09 SERG I told them I would not buy a bike with a 110 in it, they said "smart move!"  At least they've decided to take the honest route for a change.

This article finally made up my mind to not re-new.  It said a whole lot of nothing.  Even if you didnt know the story already, it was still useless.

I saw the story at the grocery store yesterday, I did not want to buy the mag. It really said very little. I read that heat had a lot to do with the problems. I already was aware of this and fixed the situation. With a race tuner, good tuning, pipes and air cleaner, the bike runs great. I prefer riding without my lowers, I think that helps. I wish we had not had the problems with the 110, I do think they run good once tuned. I love the power. I would be worried if I had not purchased the ext warranty and plan on keeping the bike long term. Stories like this are going to kill our resale value, best to keep the bike, ride it and not worry.

I bet Harley comes out with a replacement for the 110 next year, 2011 at the latest.

AIM 110 article
« Reply #71 on: December 02, 2008, 10:28:46 AM »

Anybody else seen the January Donny Peterson article in AIM?  It's a 5 part study on the 110 and it's issues.  Initially he's leading us to believe the lack of an o-ring on the base ring is causing the lower leak.  He states that it was a standard part up to 2003, when the moco eliminated it.  He's rebuilt a customer's 110, but hasn't yet told what he's done to stop the upper leak.  Maybe that's why it's a 5 part article!  It's an interesting read, if nothing else.

Seems like I don't get out much, do I???? Oh well, at least the entertainment value is worth something.

One thing I found interesting is that he is using gear drive cams.  Does this mean he doesn't trust the new hydraulic chain system?  Also, he doesn't appear to have done any porting to the heads -unless this is covered in an upcoming article.

Donnie says he only believes it when he sees it, so I hope he checked the crank runout before converting to gear drive.

Isn't this old news?  The only remaining problem I'm aware of (on the '09's) is the potential for a bad crank.

I am wondering this myself
When reading the article (intro) it states it is taken from the book written in 2008 by DP and edited to fit the AIM format.
