Six  Speed Trans
« on: August 28, 2005, 07:28:25 PM »

My need for more reguires the next gear, I would like to stop searching for it but I cant !!!  So I want to put in the 6th speed. I realize that our clutch is a problem but can the gearset be put in to give me the 6th, or does the clutch still make it a issue?
I havent discussed this with the shop yet, figured I'd toss it out for feedback.

The 6 speed gearset 33102-03A will work with the addition of the 38753-04A Side Cover Release Kit for the hydraulic clutch.  http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/gma_product.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524448765473&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374309041056&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374309041056&bmUID=1125277533716&bmLocale=en_US

If the 6 speed doesn't cure your desire for additional shifting, may I suggest Kenworth (15 forward)?    [smiley=laugh.gif]

I heard a rumor this weekend regarding the new Dyna 6 speeds.  From what I was told, they apparently require a bearing replacement at a regular service interval.  That's right, every so often, the tranny has to be rebuilt and bearings replaced.

Is the motor company trying to shore up their service departments at the dealers?

Anyone else heard this one???

grc,

Thanks, I missed that one.  Sounds like much more than a rumor.

grc,     I hope that is a Dyna issue only,  I'm not looking to get into that kind of horse brown soft smelly stuff. I wouldnt want all the other little issue that would pop up with the repairs every time they break into my case !!  [smiley=thumbsdown.gif]

grc,

Thanks for the info on that.  I have a few other items that I want to get done when I go in this week for my 20k service, I'll hold off for the time being on the 6 speed.
I'll gather up more info on that before hand.

A buddy had the dealer install a 6 speed in his '05 Road Glide.  The tranny is extremely noisy in 6th.  It may be a function of the lowers reflecting the sound back up to the rider, but I'm not sure.

I put him onto Redline HD Shockproof and that has slightly improved the condition.  Anyone else out there with a 6 speed with the same issue?
