CVO Newbie Question about 110 CVO Motor
« on: December 09, 2008, 12:54:51 AM »

Ive owned many Harleys.  Had the usual pompous Stealer issues.  I recently fell in love with the green and black CVO Springer.  I keep hearing about these serious 110 motor issues.  Have these issues been resolved in the 09s?  Should I steer clear until the Factory gets their act together or is all good now?

Thanks,

Flash, if you have your heart set on the Green & Black, don't listen to the voices in your head, and go buy it. The 110" is a fine engine with a few "quirks". Get the extended warranty and do what you're supposed to do with a motorcycle: RIDE IT! Whatever problem may or may not appear is not so insurmountable.
BTW, welcome.

All of the 07s and most of the 08s were recalled for new gaskets et al.  The claim is that the later 08s all of the 09s are fine but it's really too early in the model year to know for sure.  Go with Hard10's recommendation.  I'll second it.  It's just nuts and bolts and can always be fixed.  We both have 110s from 07.

i respectfully disagree. if i had know about the issues ahead of time i would have never bought it. i would have spent my hard earned money elsewhere. i am so sorry i bought one. i neither have the time nor inclination to fix something i just bought brand new. don't get me wrong. it is a beauty. but not worth the aggravation. i have 16,000 miles on mine and they would have been much better if it did not spend so much time in the dealer. as far as i am concerned, if the moco does not stop mine from leaking before the warranty is over, they have lost a good client. i'll eat the cost of trading the p.o.c. in at the local honda dealer. the ball is in their court. they want to keep a client, they have to do the right thing. so far its been in for leaks three times and counting. so i say don't buy it. get a proven engine. don't become a dummy like me. sooner or later it is going to catch up to them. just ask the big three in detroit. its a joke that the bosses are driving to d.c. for hearings now. i'd rather them continue to fly their fancy jets then pretend that stupid stunt worked for me. let them make money. its a free country. let the market make them earn it. let the market kill their companies if they don't earn peoples business. make better products, people stick with you. make crappy products, people eventually stick it to you. moco. see the example in detroit. don't let it happen in milwaukee. don't make me go out and buy a honda. for the love of pete.

Alejandro,

Is your bike an 09?  I believe the original question was referring specifically to an 09.  Personally, I have not heard of any 09 110 issues at all  (referencing the head gasket leaks)...

From the signature, his is an '07 SERK. I can understand him. I know other people who have been fed up with the bike because of the engine issues. Others, like many on this site, have had the engines updated and are making the best out of this. I am doing this as well. Regarding '09's we've yet to learn any engine issues - I believe none have been reported on this site, which is a good sign after almost six months on the market.

c'mon man. i don't wanna get into a debate about something that has nothing to do with the issue at hand. many brave men died in this war. let's not disrespect their sacrifice over a post. i really don't see the point in your argument anyway. how many german engineered items do you think you own? so let's stick to the point ok?

louis...you have no idea how frustrating this ownership experience has been for me...well maybe you do!...i have done everything i could to take care of everything i own...do the maintenance thing to a t....so when we spend the kind of mula on these machines...take care of them like the moco specs...the least we should expect is a dry garage floor...no oil leaks to clean up...but...we keep buying them don't we?...conundrum.... :-\

I just bought an 08 SE Ultra Classic.  How would I know if my bike is part of the recall?  If my bike is part of the recall, is this an issue that they fix automatically or does it have to start leaking before they fix it.  I did buy the extended warrantee for some reason and I usually don't.  When I was buying the bike my thought was with all the electronics on it I may need it.  Needing it for a leaking motor never crossed my mind.  I did not know any of these issues before buying mine; however, it hasn't discouraged me any way.  It's still an awesome bike and I can't wait for spring.

Off topic...I was supposed to take mine in today to the Rineharts, SE tuner, and new backing plate for air breather put on but it snowed like crazy here so I had to reschedule.  :-[

To find out if your bike needs the recall check HERE and enter your VIN. If it does, you would get a letter in the mail to verify. Sorry to hear about the snow, it was about 80 here in FL today.
