SEUC or buld your own CVO
« on: December 10, 2008, 10:08:43 AM »

I've been thinking about the SEUC, and how much money they are. I was wondering about buying a new 09 Ultra Classic at MSRP, then having the 113" kit, exhausts, PC III, etc., done by Harley dealer so I'd have warranty. I'd then have basically a CVO with 113" instead of 110", and save about 5k-10k over the CVO new price. The only thing I couldn't get is the CVO paint standard(really like the "Autumn Haze/High Octane Orange)
Does anyone have any suggestions? Or is there some other things with CVO I'm missing that I'd regret not having later on?
Thanks.

It's not only the paint but the chrome stuff and if you want to install all those goodies would be more than $5K.....for that reason it's a better idea to get a CVO......just my opinion!!

Isn't there body work too?  Or is that just the RG.

Besides all the chrome goodies, hydraulic clutch, anti-lock brakes, heaters, com gear, fancy paint...

The VIN to hold at least the cvo trad in or resale value.

if you only want a motor and paint and can live without the extra chrome

buy a stock one do the motor work and look at some of the limited edition color shop paint kits

I don't think the nav system, XM, heated seat, heated grips, remote locks, garage door opener, 40w amp, rider backrest, security system etc are standard on the FLHTUC.

IMHO buy the SECU . you will never duplicate the SE by doing it your self, would be way more expensive. If I was to do it again I would go SE and leave it stock . [maybe slip-on's]

I think the first thing that you need to consider is how long you intend to keep the bike.  In the short haul, you're going to take a real kick in the pants if want/need to sell it.  If you intend to keep the bike for a long term personal rider that is truly a "one off" machine built to your own personal likes/dislikes I think the operative question is again financial as to whether or not you want to invest more than a CVO off the floor.  I can tell you that the numbers on building a production bike to what you want will blow right thru the cost of a CVO.  Priced them out many times on many different projects and at dealer cost you'll exceed CVO price by at least 5K if you're planning on motor work, custom paint, wheels, suspension, exhaust and the many chrome items that will pop up along the way in getting the look you want.  A good example is a custom '08 RG that a close friend built last year at dealer cost (bike and parts) that ended up right at 47k.  No problem if you want to keep it long term, can afford it and enjoy it.  If you wanted to unload it, it's still an '08 RG with a '08 RG NADA value.

I've tried this before on a regular Ultra.... spent as much as if I would have just bought the CVO bike by the time I did a lot of the performance and cosmetic stuff.

And then couldn't get my $$$$ back out if it because it wasn't a Screamin Eagle bike.  The 02 was a good looking bike and ran great, but still wasn't a CVO.  JMO, the CVO bikes are a good value.

If all that is needed is a reliable powerful engine without the extra base trim but with com, nav and significantly other on board systems but without a concern for the CVO paint I suppose one does have to consider the option.  Get a Wing  :huepfenlol2: .

I asked myself the same question so I went through the accessories catalog and started adding up everything that comes standard on a CVO.  The total came to over $23K, that is enough to buy another Ultra.  Grant it, there are accessories on the CVO that I would not have bought but they are on there so I'll take them.
