I am running the stock 5 speed with my 120 motor. This engine produces so much torque early on that first gear is practically useless and since I ride fast for long periods, dropping a few hundred rpm in fifth gear would be nice. Therefore, would like to get more out of first gear and drop a few hundred going to sixth. However, I'm almost certain a sprocket change may be needed as well.
Recommendations?
Pete, think about this one: Baker now has a seven speed. The Harley-Davidson factory 6-speed ratios are: 1st (3.34), 2nd (2.30), 3rd (1.71), 4th (1.41), 5th (1.18), 6th (1.00). The Baker DD7 transmission will have the following ratios : 1st (3.76), 2nd (2.75), 3rd (2.06), 4th (1.55), 5th (1.27), 6th (1.10), 7th (1.00).
If that first is too low, change the front sprocket. Sounds like you have the torque for it. What about the clutch, though? For me, the nicest part about the 6 speed is the lower rpm's when on the freeway for longer trips.... Seven would really be great!
