I thought it would be interesting to see how the Economy slow down has affected everybody around the country in our different lines of work! As some of you know I'm in the Cattle industry (ISelBulls) Well 2008 was my best year ever, Boy! but in just one month the Milk futures dropped over 50% it doesn't look good for atleast the first six months of the year! I hate living like a common person!

I'm in the financial services industry. You've heard the news about Wall Street and the big banks. Need I say more?

We're in the truck repair industry and 08 was a bad year and 09 isn't any better.  Everyone thinks that since they aren't selling new medium/heavy duty trucks that we would be busy.  Problem is, they aren't fixing their old ones either.
What is worse for us is that a hugh part of our repair business is cement mixers, dump trucks, and other building related specialty trucks.  We aren't building anything either in central Ohio.

I don't know about you folks, but this crisis has a different feel about it.  Last year was my best year also but I sense a slowdown.  Four out of five of my divorce clients are letting their homes go back to the bank.  Either no equity ( their own fault), can't get a loan to cash the other spouse out , or simply can't make the payments.  And, nothing is selling.  I'm not talking about starter homes either.  Some are in the $400- $600 k range which buys you a lot of house in Central WA.  Hope I'm wrong!!

So it was that I found myself sitting on a bench outside the service department of San Diego H-D
Since Beags bought his 05 SEEG at SD H-D and he thought he might have a warranty issue, he'd had the bike dropped of there
Well as per usual with the idiots who run SD H-D, a bike that was supposed to be ready at 2:30 was unfinished at 4:30, so I sat there for a bit
If there's an economic downturn you wouldn't know it from watching the activity at this place. It was a veritable beehive of activity.
Not sure if all of these guys were just trying to look busy for the SIL who runs the place for his FIL owner, but they sure were doing a good job of acting if they were faking it.

My business was flat last year.... finished 2008 without any growth.  I guess considering the economy, that was pretty good.  Not at all what I have been accustom to over the past 21 years.  We have experienced some growth every single year - except 2008. 

Trying to keep my chin up and inspire and motovate my employees, but the trends are not encouraging.  Economist are saying that Oklahoma has not experienced the worst of the "recession" yet and that 2009 should be tougher in Oklahoma.  I'm optimistic... I'm thinking maybe things will break loose in the second quarter.

I'm in the insurance and financial products business.  General Motors closed their plant here over a year ago.  And, people are not buying houses and cars like they have in the past.  All these things (and a few others) have pretty much stiffled growth in my business.

Like I said, I'm optimistic.  I'm hoping things will level out, unemployment will decrease, and folks will get over the fears that the media has fostered and inflated.  I could be all wrong, but optimism beats the other option

my business is down 50% or more. the area is just to overbuilt with residences and commercial.  the developers cashed out along time ago.
still surviving because of low debt load.

The jukebox business is tough these days. As TN said, this area has experienced a lot of developers "cashing out" and moving on. That means there are less construction workers to play pool, less waitresses to buy clothes, less bar owners to buy... whatever bar owners buy. but you get the idea: it all trickling down and every most everyone is feeling it.
