I can honestly say I know how BB feels - and given a few days to simmer, he may come back like I did/have...

BB was one of the folks that told me to hang around and not write the forum off, maybe he will follow his own prescription, albeit in a reduced capacity to his current posting participation...

#1, I'm so sorry that you know how it feels
#2, I'm sooooooo sorry that the things that some do that hurt others is OK, when the perceived things that others do that does not hurt anyone is Not.

All depends on what side of the delete button you are sitting.

Been on the board that decides post, don't post, but have never developed the stomach for it.

He will be sorely missed here.  There are so many people that I have really liked a lot that are gone because of much less.  And yet others that are here...  best left unsaid.

Wow! :o I am out of town this week and checked my PM's last night and went to reply to BB and it didn't recognize him. I thought it was just something with the site. Just got in the room today and see this! I sure do hate to see a friend leave. I am torn to the fact we have rules to abide which I agree we should abide in. I personally respect all moderators and think they do a great job. Although I haven't been on the disciplinary side of their judgement. I think if you test or push the limits on purpose, eventually it will come around to bite you. I have found this out many of times in my own life. That being said and hearing what Brian's intention of posting about being a proud American, I can understand both sides and how emotions can get ruffled. It has always amazed me how well this place has gotten along with this many different personalities. Shoot, at my house we can't even make it through a family reunion without someone in my family having a fallout with someone else. :nixweiss: One reason it has worked here is because of the rules Neal has laid down. So I'm for them. I love Brian and have really enjoyed getting to know him away from this website. I pray he will be back!

Brian in the short time I have been active on this site I have not had the opportunity to interact with you as much as I would have liked to. You will be sorely missed by not only myself but many others as witnessed in previous post's. Hopefully you will return sooner than later!!! Bill

I support rules of engagement also. But they have to be consistent. As adults, we should be able to talk about ANYTHING that's not X-Rated, NSFW, or vulgar, and there's no reason not to be able to discuss them like adults. If it gets out of hand, warn and lock it down. Just keep locking and/or warning (or more severe) the culprit.

If these things though are to be banned from this site, it should pertain to ALL threads that take a controversial direction. I'm not a Christian, and not religious AT ALL! I personally am offended at seeing so many discussions on religion, and all them prayers here. I JUST DON'T READ THEM!!! If ya don't like something here, you might say something, you might not, but then just don't go back there. But the arbitrary method of "we'll let this stay, but this gotta go", without consistency is what causes someone to take this personally. The rules aren't personal. They're not directed at any individual.

That stupid Obama thread is what started this whole mess. And low and behold, it's still here and one of the biggest threads on the entire Board! And a guy said he's proud to be American, and like the Baltimore Colts leaving in the middle of the night, that thread was simply removed without any fanfare or explanation whatsoever. Consistency!

I can see why B B was upset. I even agree with him that he should have been able to say it. But rules is rules, and they're made by the owner. Try asking me to ride my bike. Then I tell ya to do things a certain way. Then blow me off and do what you want, after I was nice enough to loan it to ya! Ya try that one!!! You'll get to try it that one time, but ya might not be physically able to ride again! At least you'd NEVER get on one of my bikes again anyway!!!

So this is a lil rambled, but my point again is consistency! If that Obama thread remained, this one should have too. It should have had a mod say why it's being locked, and then get locked! Or GET RID OF ALL OF THEM!!!! And frankly, I've said this well over a year ago. THERE'S NO ROOM IN A PLACE THIS SIZE FOR POLITICS OR RELIGION!!! NO GOOD COMES FROM PEOPLE WHO DON'T AGREE ON THESE 2 SUBJECTS WHEN HAVING A HEATED DISCUSSION!!!

Let's be able to discuss ANYTHING WE WANT TO LIKE ADULTS! And if not, THEN BAN POLITICS AND RELIGION FROM THIS GREAT SITE ONCE AND FOR ALL!

This is my opinion and mine alone. If ya think different about me in any way after reading it, so be it. It's who I am. I hope the mods will let my point of view remain, cause that's all it is, is my opinion. I love this place way too much to disrespect it. Respect is earned and I give it to all who've earned it! And I have no use for those who demand it!!! I respect Neal and the Mods here and abide the rules as best I can, whether I agree or not. And believe me, there've been many times I haven't. But it's not personal, and I won't take it that way. All I ask is that we have some consistency to how we do things to avoid a member of Brian's stature to ever leave for a reason like that again!!!

Go ahead, give me hell! ;)

Absolutely correct!  Politics and religion are two very dangerous subjects.  They are subjects that can be looked at from a completely common sense view on one side, and have the other side in total disagreement, and the two views will never meet.  I was speaking to my Aunt a few nights ago and we veered off into the political arena.  I know that we voted for different candidates and within a matter of seconds I could see that we were heading for a debate with no winner.  I quickly told her that I am giving her the last word in this discussion and then I am changing the subject immediately.  My aunt is an intelligent women (besides those political views) and she also agreed to disagree and we moved on to other topics.  I understand fully the need to avoid these subjects on this forum.  I have read the rules of this forum and I have caught myself on several occasions before posting some items that would have likely been removed.  I would rather not post them, than post them and have them removed.  I remember the one post that I did have removed...it was a joke...and I thought it was pretty harmless and I actually felt a little resentment that it was removed, but I referred myself back to the rules and understood that they are there for a reason.  I moved on and forgot about it (until now).

I hope Spiderman returns also.  I don't know what other things have led him to his decision.  The fact is this is a forum that was set up for the common interest we have in the CVO Harleys.  But the other fact is that it is much more than that.  It's a social club also.  There is an obvious banter amongst the members here and lots of goodhearted ribbing that takes place.  This forum wouldn't be any fun if it was all business.  We have the Off Topic section for topics that really don't have to do with CVO Harleys.  We could have a Political section and we could have a Religious section, but there are other forums on the computer for those.  I think that they are out of place here and I think allowing open discussion of these 2 subjects on the forum could very well lead to the loss of more than just one member.  I'm sure that the original idea to ban these subjects was to keep the potential arguments somewhere besides this website.

I too understand Spiderman's feelings about his post being deleted, but I am making an assumption that it was not something personal, but more along the lines of "we can't encourage this type of post, no matter who posted it or how important that person is to the forum".  I don't know if the moderators can be charged with the task of reading someone's mind to know that they will be deeply offended by the deletion of a post, and know to walk on eggshells doing so.  If I felt that they were capable of reading minds in that way, then I would say that in that case, they should provide an understanding personal note explaining the post deletion and maybe putting that post on hold somewhere until a further discussion is had.  But really, is all of that necessary?  Probably not.  This forum has continued to grow and there will always be someone that doesn't agree with the rules or how an infraction of those rules was determined.  I say go on with life.  Spiderman, you need to let it go.  There's no pride issue here.  Is someone going to fault you for wanting to come back to where you belong...with all the rest of us with the same passion for our bikes?  I don't think so.  If you want, you can blame me...that's what my ex-wife always did.

I like other had my run in with Brian but we both got over it.

I for one am pizzed about a subject on Patriotism being taken down.  I spent 23 1/2 years as a Light Infantryman and have the scars and knees to prove it.  I do not expect anything in return for my service except everyone respecting everyone else's rights that I helped protect.

Not knowing what the thread said, but if Brian said it was about patriotism, then that is what it should be taken for.  It is about the intent not the interpertation by someone else without discussion.  The least that could have been done is the thread locked down until the thread's intent was discussed with the originator.

What the heck is next??  Is my Avatar going to be removed because I show pride in former military job?????????????????????????????

I thought we lived in a democracy.

 :nervous:

OK, where do you draw the line?  If no one can discuss anything controversial, this is going to be an extremely boring place.  How many times can you tell people yes, the left muffler bearing from a 2002 RK will fit a 2008 RK, and no, I can't recommend a specific muffler to suit your tastes, of which I know nothing, and anyway stating my preference could be construed to be controversial and therefore liable to upset some member with a vested interest in some other brand or maybe just doesn't think people should be able to change mufflers.

Life is controversial and sometimes upsetting to one or more parties.  BFD!  If people have become so rigid in their thinking that they can't read an opinion without being mortally wounded, I suggest they dig a bomb shelter in the back yard, shield it from all radio waves, and pull the hatch shut behind them.

Brian my friend, I hate to see you leave and hope you can see your way clear to rejoin us at some future date.  I'll miss you.

What truly amazes me about this, is all of the people that want B B to stay on board. When I began my research before buying my Screamin Eagle, I visited several sites catering to Harley motorcycles. One in particular stands out in my memory. Over there, one member had left and all of the other members were bad mouthing him and saying "good riddance". That was it for me. I did not want to associate with people who would treat another member that way. That same day I found CVOHarley and have never looked back. I may have visited those other sites 5-6 times (max) since. This is my home.
Patriotism is different than politics. I have since learned what the comments were that caused the thread to be pulled from the original poster. Yes, they were political in nature. However, it was a valid comment and these things are just a fact of life. Current events happen every day and they affect all of us and those that we love. There are times when we need to get them off of our chest and this may be the only outlet for some of us to do that with like minded (ok, somewhat like minded) friends. The point is, that this place is like a group therapy session for some and people need a way to express themselves.
B B, I hope that you can find a way in your heart to return. I understand your conviction and admire it, but sometimes we have to make compromises for the good of the group. Likewise, I think there has to be a happy medium from our mods.
