Dan, can you sync your calendar & schedule with your PC? Can you have multiple schedules? i.e. one for work or for two people? The sync thing is most important for me. My secretary (Linda
) can add appointment to the PC during the day and then I just download them when I get home. What about a program just to take notes? I'm looking for a new phone and am looking at all my options. I don't have a need for the pictures.
When I got all my e-mail work related stuff to work on the iPhone, the daily schedule/calendar comes through the iPhone automatically via the 3G network without being hooked hard wire into the PC.
I get my personal e-mails as well as my work e-mails and calendar events. You can set up as many accounts as you want, Gmail, Yahoo, Charter, Comcast etc. You just pick which account you want to open. During the day when an e-mail is new, it gives you an alert and a number at the mail button. You hit the mail button and pick the account with the number of e-mails shown to the right of each account.
When I'm at work I can log onto the wifi but I can't get work e-mails through our server, but on 3G they come right through.
If I open my personal account, Charter, via the iPhone, I can read and delete the e-mails without actually deleting them from the Charter server. But when I'm reviewing my work e-mails, a delete and trash are just that. I had my iPhone just a short time and I had been doing my personal stuff and then I logged onto my work account. When finished I deleted all my daily e-mails and deleted the trash; thinking that they were still at work on my work server account.... Wrong. All that day's e-mails were history. You can setup how many you want your iPhone to review, like current 25, current 50 etc. Most of my Outlook folder show up as well so I can sort and move an e-mail to the appropriate folder.
For Puzzled, when I got mine, the only place to get the iPhone was at an AT&T company store. Now Best Buy has them and probably some of the other AT&T outlets, maybe even Walmart, wouldn't bet on it though. Verizon does their own version of this I think with the LG or Samsung, not sure.
I do notice though that still with the AT&T service, either of my old phones, the Razr or the Sony, I had no dropped calls. Now with the iPhone, I drop calls quite a bit. I'm in metro St. Louis and I usually have 4 to 5 bars all the time. Even when I drop a call, I'll have 4 or 5 bars at the time. It's frustrating to say the least.
There are just so many options for contacts, multiple phone numbers, e-mail addresses from the contact list etc. The only thing I really hate though is that it has a "Recent" folder for recent and missed calls. On my old phones I could highlight any or just one of the numbers and delete it. On the iPhone you can only delete them all or nothing. Or at least that's all I've been able to do so far.
As far as battery goes, if you keep it just as a phone, I get a couple days of talk and standby. If I play with the UTube button, the battery goes quite quickly. UTube is a preloaded app and it's really great. It does full screen video only so there is no other boarder graphics, just the video doing it's thing. The search and bookmark is great.
The best free app I downloaded was Shazam. This is the program that "listens" through the microphone to your radio and then compares the song to the iStore data base and then tells you what it is. IF you want to purchase it, you can download it and pay for it over the iPhone and your Apple account.
Also, you use iTunes 8 or above to do all the music and video downloads to the iPhone, just like your iPod does. I even have the new Mummy movie downloaded on the iPhone just to see how it works out. With the Blu-Ray movie I bought, a licensed copy comes that you take from a second disc in the set and you give the password and iTunes store releases the code and the PC will then copy it to your iTunes folder on the PC.
As far as pictures go, you can just USB link it to the PC at work or home and it shows up as another drive on My Computer. You can then click on the pictures in the iPhone and drag them to your hard drive or upload pictures to the iPhone. So I have my vacation photos from Hawaii, my Willys build and show pictures, my '08 Sturgis pictures and all my new boardtrack pictures. Even 3 mg pictures upload without issues.
Right now it tells me the Dow closed down -105.30. Hog closed down at $12.40 a share losing $1.16 for the day.
I can play air hockey alone or with a partner, what fun... I have my crazy "8" ball fortune teller and it says I may get lucky tonight if I get off the damn computer at work and get home...
After the first post and now this one, I have nothing more to add.
Just that I do really like the iPhone and it gets two thumbs up from me.
