Well, 2 times is a charm.

Twice I have been sitting in a dealership in the last two months, ready to order a new Ruby 09 SEUC.

Twice, I have been rejected, after originally being told they had the allotment! One dealership had even taken a deposit!

It's a sign...I don't need a new bike. :'(
Especially,  20 minutes after being told about the last disappointment.
I was riding along and had a freak incident!
Some wayward utility trailer tire travelling the opposite direction, just rolling along, impacts the left side of my bike, crushing my leg. With much pain, I cross the outer lane to the shoulder, and get some nearby utlility workers to help me off my bent up ride. The 05 Cherry SEEG I was planning on trading in, is now in sad shape, along with its rider!

After a painful Waaambulance ride to the ER, and a few days to reflect while laying in this hospital bed with only a few broken leg and foot bones. It a clear to me how blessed I am with the present situation, and how much worse it could have been.

I reckon my red bike will be fixed by the offending party's insurance, and I eventually will recover to ride again!
It sure does amaze me how things occur, just to make me realize how lucky I have it!
To those guys in FIRE/RESCUE....Thanx for a speedy and VERY professional experience!
There are MANY other circumstances in this particular experience that could have been different, and worse! :orange: :apple:

Just throwing that out there!

What do ya'll think?

It's one thing to be injured due to bad judgement on your part or some other self inflicted manner - but to get hurt in such a random unavoidable way just plain sucks!

Bad luck hurts sometime, doesn't it!  Best wishes towards a fast and complete recovery!!!  :2vrolijk_21:

Sorry to hear about your accident! Our prayers for a speedy recovery. Don't think the events are trying to tell you anything in particular. If you want the new bike and can afford it, then go for it. There will be one at a dealer with your name on it if you wish.

Well, I'm just laying here on the couch with my leg in a fixator, waiting for the swelling to go down for surgery to reallign all my broken bones, thinking how lucky I am considering the circumstances.  :) I can't stop thinking about that dang ol tire just rolling across the road toward me!  :'(  It would have been a totally different story if that tire had been bouncing at all! More than likely would have knocked me off the bike!
Oh well...nuf of that!!  I got a call from my dealership yesterday telling me they now have on order the bike they said they couldnt get!  :P  Wow...talk about making my head spin!!   ???
So it seems the dealer estimate to fix my ride wasnt enuf to total it.(Maybe I should have fallen over with it anyway!) So I reckon they will fix it and I will have a trade-in to talk about after all!

Thanx to all for your thoughts and prayers...and hope to see ya'll in Eureka Springs in May!!   :orange:

That ^ is promising news Tony.  Good to read.

Expecting any timing hassles?  Might painted parts or other delays push repair beyond the new bike's delivery date and foul up using it as a trade in?  Or is best guess it'll all be good?

Well, that's a very good question...Timing this ballet with the dealer/insurance co/MOCO is CERTAINLY foremost in my head!
The point man at the dealer, Cody, is the one who inspected the bike and wrote up the estimate. He has included some things that I am surprised to see on the list, but am certainly very grateful!! ::)  For example, Cody has included some repainting of my front fender, front fairing, gas tank, and left saddlebag. He says that if I send it off to Harley it could take up to 3 months!
He also mentioned another posibillity, of sending it to a local painter guy, whom HE says would do a great job of fixing. My first thoughts were, what about fading, matching of new to the rest of the bike that would not be redone? Cody says that is not an issue with the clear coats that Harley uses. I dont know what to think about that...but then again, I am just gonna trade it in...how much should I really care?
Estimate was for over 11k to fix the bike, including some broken cooling fins on BOTH cylinders. my concern now becomes...the top end work I had done to the motor when i bought it..(valves polished tuned and ported, new lifters, cam)...probably wont have any effect on that! But I wanted him to be aware of it anyway!

What do you all think about all this...should I just let nature take it's course on the rebuild? Think I should let the local paint guy do the repair, so I can be sure to get the bike done in time for the arrival of my new ride?
Just airing my thoughts here....looking for your thoughts!!

Meanwhile...I am headed to Surgery on Friday morning to get all the bones in my leg and foot lined up finally!! I am READY to get the clock started on the recovery plan...I got some riding to do for the GTG in Eureka this May...for Crying Out Loud!!

It's a crap shoot on the paint Tony.  We've seen factory ordered painted parts that didn't match both new bikes and bikes that had been in service for some time.  If the local painter is truly a gifted painter he can match what's there regardless of whether it's changed over time or not.  The question becomes how good is he?  If the dealer is standing behind his work to your satisfaction and this moves the time equation in your favor it seems a difficult option to decline.

As for lifting the heads to replace cylinders?  Barring something unexpected that's not a big worry.  Basically you'll get a free ring job out of the deal.

Fingers crossed the bike and the bones all work out for you and do so promptly.

Best wishes for a great surgery and speedy recovery.

We have a guy locally here that does great paint work and I wouldn't hesitate to have him repair any of my bikes if I couldn't get the replacement stuff.  If factory tins were available though I would go that way first if possible.

Just me though and not necessarily any better than a good painter.

Well...I guess that's the bottom line isnt it....do I trust my dealer?
I think...to be fair...dealerships are made up of many varied people and personalities...and as in life....those people are as diverse as anywhere else.
I guess it could be considered a leap of faith to allow the dealer's local paint guy to do any work. If the guys in the service dept. are confident and willing to back the work, then I cant see a problem with that!   :)
