Hot '09 Bagger?
« on: January 26, 2009, 07:56:43 PM »

While browsing through the service manual for the '09 Baggers, I came across an interesting tidbit on page 2-60.
"Air baffle (FLTR)"
Removal
Note
"By allowing the flow of air to pass under the fuel tank and over the cylinder heads, removing the air baffle evacuates heated air and provides some relief to the rider in warmer temperatures: 70 F or above."

InstallationNote
Install air baffle in colder weather."

Got me to thinking that maybe MOCO is aware of some "heat related comfort issues" with the newer bikes? They are trying to alleviate some of the heat related complaints with heat deflectors, relocated exhaust system, rear cyl cutoff, and now front air deflector removal?
The frustration arises when I'm just trying to operate this bike without frying my leg, and cooking the wife's foot! Glad I have an EVO that is faster, cooler, softer suspension, better gas milage (sometimes!), but, it just doesn't handle like the '09 ! I guess I'll never have that "perfect bike"....LOL

You might consider ceramic coating your header pipe - it removes quite a substantial amount of heat.  I keep waiting for the MOCO to coat the headers as a standard practice...

Yeah, seems like an endless search for cooler running....not one fix, but many. I wish MOCO would just put them all together when they SELL the bike, rather than have us do it later.
I would guess that chrome or ceramic would cost about the same if done at the factory. They have a chrome shop at York, why not a "ceramic line" there also???
Check out some of the finishes they have on other models like V-Rod and Sporty models.
Now if I ran the factory.................!!!

My '09 SEUC came without an air baffle, and it seems it can not be installed. Did anyone look into that? It was one the first things I always added to a Touring bike, since the Moco discontinued installing them as a standard.
