New to Harley and CVO and have a question
« on: February 04, 2009, 05:31:11 PM »

Hello I just purchased my 2000 Road Glide Screamin Eagle in late October and living in Canada only had 2 weeks to ride it.  It has one problem that I have been unable to get an answer about from my local dealers.  When realeasing torque (down shifting... backing off on the throttle... etc.) there is a squeaking or chirping noise that seems to be coming from the front left side of the bike.  This  sound gets quieter the longer I ride for, but is back when the bike is cold.  I have been trying to research this on my own and came across this group.  This seems like the right place to ask if anyone else has experienced this noise and what if anything can be done to correct it.  Thanks for your feedback in advance,  I would love to solve this before I take the bike out in about 6 weeks.  Thats right I am jealous of you riders in the southern states!!!

Thanks

Marty

It sounds like your drive belt needs adjusted.

Welcome aboard from Minnesota! Another place where bikes are in storage instead of on the road where they belong!

:welcome_005:  Welcome to the site, Marty  :welcome_005:  from  :sunny:  sunny So. Cal.  :sunny: and the CVO gang!  :vrolijk_6:  Nice  :2vrolijk_20: SERG :2vrolijk_20: you have there!   :2vrolijk_21:  We'll try to help you spend even more  :ons_4:  $$ on it!   :ons_4:   :bananarock:   :mango:   :huepfenjump3:

The drive belt would be a simple check, but the front left....   :nixweiss:  Had an 04 RG and now the 09 SERG.  Never heard such a noise as you describe.  But front left sources:  left brake rotor / pads, wheel bearings,  something loose in the fairing.  :-\   Hope you find it!

Marty, welcome to the site from the great state of Tennessee!  My advise would be to narrow down when you hear the sound by trying different things like applying slight front brake pressure while decelerating,  during turning left or right,  slow speed vs higher speed, etc.  This may help you locate the source of the noise so you can fix it.  Sorry your having the problem.  Good luck.

Marty,
Welcome to the site from The Lowcountry of South Carolina!

I kept hearing a noise ( chirping like sound ) coming from the front of my 99 RG during downshifting, the dealer couldn't find it and two other shops tried without any luck. One day I didn't hear it and my road gremlin bell had fallen off. I replaced the bell and the noise came back. May not be you noise but it doesn't hurt to check.
