Man, I just ordered mine last week and having read your threads I'm a little nervous.  It sounds like a crap shoot whether you'll get a good one or not.

I count four people reporting problems with their CB windshields being asymmetrical: UFO_HOG, dartman, HDBaggerDave and 61bbltop. Some other folks are reporting no problems at all.

With my CB windshield (14" Dark Tint) already on order, I am starting to get a little nervous. "When is it coming?" and "Are there really serious quality problems?" were my two big questions. So, I picked up the phone this afternoon and called Cee Baileys. The person who answered the phone connected me directly to Joe.

I asked about the delivery date for my windshield. He took my number and called me back after a few minutes. As we talked, he told me that they had been "swamped" with orders for the new SERG windshields -- about 70 right off the bat. He said these windshields are hand-made and that they only make about 8 each day -- one an hour. Since my order was one of the later orders they received, they had just gotten to my order.

Joe told me that my windshield was cut today and that they should ship it tomorrow or Thursday at the very latest. With shipping time, he estimated it should be in my hands by next Tuesday or Wednesday.

While I was a little disappointed -- I'm ready for it now! -- I was glad to hear that my order was near completion .

Next I asked Joe about the asymmetry issue. He addressed the problem very straight-forwardly. He told me he had received two windshields that were reportedly asymmetrical and that they were going to "make it right" for the customers by either repairing or replacing the windshield or refunding the customers money if that was what it took. They are committed to making this right for anyone that has a problem.

Joe asked me to pass on this offer to the rest of the forum.

Anyone who has a problem with the quality of their CB windshield, please call the CB sales department. THEY WILL MAKE IT RIGHT. If you aren't happy with the response from the sales team -- attitude, skepticism, refusal to address the issue -- call back and ask to speak to Joe directly. He'll make sure you are taken care of.

While I had Joe on the phone, I also took time to ask about the windshield height. I ordered a 14" because I tend to sit tall in the saddle for a 5'10" guy. What if it was too tall and I needed a shorter windshield? Joe said, "It's simple. Ship the shield back to us. We'll cut it down and courtesy ship it back to you. All you pay for is the shipping back to CB." Now, that's sounds like a reasonable offer to me.

In the end, I was very happy with my conversation with Joe. He spent a good 20 minutes on the phone with me. I'd encourage anyone who is having quality issues with their CB shield or anyone who is concerned about their CB shield order to call CB -- (800) 788-0618 -- and ask to speak to Joe.

This is a brand-new, hand-made product, folks. There were bound to be some issues, but it doesn't sound like there's a problem with every CB windshield for the SERG, just a handful. I could be wrong, but that seems to be the case from where I sit.

Just my $0.02 worth!

I agree and am willing to give them the time they need to get it right.  After being disappointed with the KW fit and the return issues with that, it all makes you a little leery.

I'm with you Rick. The shield is worth the wait. The fit to the stock SERG gasket is a big selling point. Looks and function are second to none. If you ordered with a credit card you are covered no mater what the issue. Joe made it clear thou that there was a glitch and he will make it right.  :2vrolijk_21:

In my book, that makes Joe a stand-up guy. There's no shame in having a problem. We all have problems with things we do. Heck, I'm in the software business and it seems like all we do is fix bugs, LOL, but I digress.

If Joe is willing to admit that Cee Baileys has had a quality problem on (some of) their SERG windshields and[/i] he is willing to do what it takes to make it right...

What more can you ask for?

Is the 14" cee baileys measured from the bottom of the shield or from the center screw?

There are several threads on this subject.  Most show how they are measuring.

CB does provide new longer screws.

CB uses the stock SERG rubber gasket and well nuts.  The provide two washer that go behind heach well nut so it will not fall into the fairing.  Then they provide another nilon washer that goes between the shield and well nut.  For the new mounting screws you use the washers that came with the factory mounting screws.

It takes 30 minutes to do the complete install, if you take your time, keep going back to the instructions to make sure your doing it right and being carefull not to scratch anything.  You also need a sip of the beer every now and then while doing it.

It really was a easy install.  It also fits like stock.  I can not say how it works as I have not had a chance to ride it with it yet.  I left for Houston right after putting it on the bike.

This is actually very helpful.  I just received my 13" shield and I must say that reading their instructions was a bit of a challenge.  Your explanation actually is easier for me to follow.  I will give it a try later today.

UPDATE*****

I talked to Joe yesterday, said they recieved my returned windshield and it was infact molded wrong. He said it was due to "spring back" in the lexan. He said they put it back in the mold and reformed it. He had just got done looking at it and said it was within 1 - 3 mm from being perfect, but that it was unnoticeable and looked symetrical. He was sending it out yesterday morning, and I may have it today. I'm a little concerned about the remold process, but, I'll give them the benefit until I see it.
I'll post pics and an update when it arrives....

After trying the Kuryakyn windshield and finding its not much different than the stock one I did bite the bullet and order the CB windshield in 14 inch.  This is the size Joe recommended and said the try it and if I think it should be the 13" they will trim it down for me.  Said they are most caught up with SERG shields so should have it in about 8 days.

Re-molding process??.....this could get very interesting.  If it's to big, cut it down...I get that.  To make something bigger than what it was originally, either to small or short, sounds like heat and making something thinner by streching it.  Wife said I should that.
