plugging an Autocom headset into my FLHTCUSE4 - for you techies
« on: February 18, 2009, 12:16:20 PM »

Hi

I know I've asked a similar question before, but...

Does anybody know of an adaptor that allows you to connect your Autocom headset into the Harley on bike connections. Currently I've got Autocom gear for bike to bike comms, but if my wife is on the back (she's also got her own bike) it would be handy not to use the Autocom for comm's and just plug our helmets into the bike.

Otherwise, I'll need to get another helmet and headset that does fit and in the UK the Harley headset is nearly $300 which seems a lot.

Or is there a headset that is cheaper than the Harley one?

You only get one in the US as well... Some dealers may throw in a second.

As to an alternative, try J&M Corp.  They are one of the best customer service outfits I've worked with in the Motorcycle Industry.  Thw owner himself answers many of the tech question emails I've sent them.  They have a couple of different headset options.  Don't know about an adapter for the AutoComm unit.  My wife and I tried that a while back and gave it away.  Just didn't work out for us.

When I traded the 07 in at Preston Harley they asked me to give the 2 headsets back for the next owner cos the new bike comes with 2 new sets.
Dont worry we will both get two!!

Thanks again, I've never been able to get the complete spec sheet for the UK CVO.

I'm installing the Harley factory CB on my '09 SERG. No headsets included when you go this route. It's all parts and pieces. I ordered the J&M headsets instead of the Harley headsets because (a) the came highly recommended over the Harley headsets and (b) they were about 10% less expensive.

I like the one in my wife's helmet.  It's smaller and less obtrusive.  I've had three dressers so I've got the free headset in my helmet, my kids helmet, and my spare helmet.  If I had to buy one it'd be the J&M.

Here is another reason I will not use the HD headset.  It works loose from the helmet connection since there is nothing to secure it other than the friction of the plug.  Can't count the times my bsr's came off and once dropped down and left a peck on the saddlebag lid.  The J&M is light years ahead of the moco setup in sound quality and design.  When I got my new seuc I sold the moco headset on ebay.  That can help pay for the J&M.

Ditto - I've had 3 new UCs and all came with only 1 headset.

I agree and probably should've sold mine too.  Never really thought of it til you said about doing it.  Oh well.

But as far as it coming out, Since I have bluetooth and plug in whenever I get on the bike I ran a Zip tie around the indent in the plug on the cord.  Then I ran a second zip tie through the first one and around the socket piece that clamps to the helmet.  Advantage: cord can't disconnect and fall out.  Disadvantage: cord can't disconnect and be left out.
