Another ship date delay
« on: February 22, 2009, 03:26:27 PM »

Just got a disappointing phone call yesterday from the dealer, called Milwaukee and estimated delivery has been pushed back again till June 1st, I put the deposit down in October, the reason?  :( They have not received there anticipated sales projections from the dealers on the Ruby Red color and need to have x numbers of Ruby Ultra's ordered from the delears to fullfill the production lot before building the bikes.
Starting to get frustrated and wondering if this is still the right decision given all the post's read on problems with the 110's :-\
Anybody else out there have information out there that correlates to the delayed shipment date, evidently this is the last lot of Ruby's made, make sense?

The 09 production 110s haven't been droppling like flies as did the prior years' engines.  Having said that; if you assume the 1 June date is accurate (not a sure thing either way) then you're looking at very easily close to a July delivery.  That late in to to the production year a guy has to at least consider extending the wait just a little longer and telling the dealer to make you first on the list for a 2010 rather than low man on the pole for a 2009.

2010 is exactly what I was thinking as well, the build date is May and June 1st is the shipment arrival date at the latest supposedly.
If the rumor is true on a water cooled 110 or a complete re-design could be exciting but then the old saying goes never buy the first year version of a re-design till all the bugs are worked and there certainly seems to be issues with gremlins.

That's got to be a concern.  Given Harley's history with new platforms I'd never get a first year new engine.  Major change has never been their best thing.  Much to consider.  Among those things is just the look.  If you happen to just love the red one you get it because it's the one that makes the heart go pitter-patter.  Logic isn't alwasy the primary motivator for a bike purchase.

Ok, logic is almost never the primary motivator for a bike purchase.  The first step to recover is admitting the problem after all 8) .

Oh yea, pitter patter is the phrase, everything I have is RED :pepper: I wish I could figure out how to post a pic of my "other" ride, I have tried a few times but will not post.
When I first seen this bike I said that is it, red in color is my top priority. My other thought is if this model and color is getting much harder to get adds to the pleasure of having one of the few...and maybe just maybe all of the gremlins will be solved by the time it arrives.

Hi TazmanT,
I took the liberty in reviewing some of your earlier posts, because I wanted to know where you are based. In any case it seems that you are sitting at home worrying about the 100 engine, with your Glare Polish and parts ordered anticipating the delivery of your Harley. And this delivery has been pushed back until the summer. I suggest you take my advice: Go and get the bike NOW. There are '09's available and somewhere in the U.S. is a Ruby Red just waiting for you. AND: To my knowledge no '09 engine failed so far - I'd take that as a good sign! If you keep contemplating and waiting, in May or June, you'll still be undecided and you will miss the riding season, at least for the most part. And than you'll find other stuff to worry about, like "how about a '10" or maybe, because the '10 could have issues, wait until the end of 2010, and then these are sold out, and you'll find yourself worrying about the '11. Do you get my point? Life is to short not to ride!

Ride safely,
Louis

PS: If you wish to post a picture of your other ride: Hit "Reply" from this page, but on the top or bottom of the thread list, and on the resulting page will be the "Post reply" window. When this is fully loaded, you will see "Attach" near the bottom, click on the "Search" button next to the box and in the resulting window select the picture file you wish to post. It must be stored on your computer. Click on "Open" in the window, and the box between "Attach" and "Search" will be populated with the complete file name, including location. Click on "Post" below. Admire result.

If you want the 2009 Ruby Red, have you tried searching for an unsold one within a reasonable driving distance from your home?  I live in Nebraska...after searching for the same bike you want at the local dealers and all over the internet, I called a dealer in Chicago that had one on their website.  I was willing to travel 500 miles to get it  8).  Turned out it was sold long ago but they hadn't updated their site (why would they, it generated my call, right).  Anyway, the guy was very helpful and did a dealer locate for me and gave me a list of dealers in Nebr. and Iowa that had a ruby red one.  After calling a few to find they too were sold, I ended up finding one at a dealer 60 miles from me that still had it unsold (they had a hold previously but that deal fell thru).  I put a deposit on it over the phone, then ran down to see it the next day since I hadn't seen a Ruby one in person yet.  After a few mods and a new front fender comes in (blemished from factory), I should have it in 2 weeks or so.

My local dealer (who has been very good in past) wouldn't even do for me what the Chicago guy did.  I think they wanted the sale themselves.  And they said in order to trade for a CVO they had to give a CVO in return, which they did not and would not have (until 2010 models).

Just my $.02.  Good luck!  Ruby Red Rocks!

I put a 1k deposit down in October to get the committed order, it was whoever got there first to stake there claim and in this case I was the first to arrive, the actual order from the dealer could not even be put in until late November so I am obligated to wait. Here is my pic if it works of my other ride...

Well, personally, it seems logic should dictate.  Honestly can't imagine anyone getting all hung up on a bike just because it's red.

I was just trying to give you another option to get it sooner (although I was sure you thought about that already).  It s@#ks they've pushed it back on you!  >:(

Seeing that your dealer ordered a Ruby Red one for you, I have to now wonder if my local dealer was completely honest about how they get CVOs.  Made it sound like they NEVER know what CVOs they are getting, let alone having any choice in what color they'll get.  More like the MoCo assigned them their allotment, probably based on overall sales.  I did just first go to them in January about the CVO, so maybe it was already too late for an '09 one  :nixweiss: :confused5:

Thanks for the advice, I often wonder about the dealer not knowing what they will get and this why I had to put the deposit down to secure one for sure. The delaer did ask if they could even get a different color and Milwauki said "no".
Oh well I will just have to have patience, good local dealer and nice sales manager.

By the way, halleluah I finally figured out how to post a pic... :pepper:

(...)

The dealer ordering on Harley's works a little bit different during the four phases of the annual production. First phase is (typically) July through September, and in this phase the dealers have little say. This is because the factory makes a big deal of secrecy out of the launch of the model year and current colors, which are all released at the same date. I think this will change in the future, with models and colors being introduced at various times in the year. We will see. The second phase, October through December, serves mostly to deliver the bikes pre-ordered by model and color. This is the time when most people who ordered in June or July get their bikes delivered. The third phase is January through March and this is somewhat of a hybrid between 1 and 2. The reason is, that by that time the Moco and the dealers have figured out which colors and models sell best in which part of the country, and this influences production and dealer orders. The fourth phase, April through June, typically pushes the bikes to the dealers which the Moco sells to make the best profit and/or run production most efficiently. This all is of course in a perfect scenario, where the bikes are 95% sold by the end of June, and new models arrive in July. We have seen variations in the past, and we will see more variations in the future. Now this year is very different, since the most part of the production cuts announced happens in the second half of phase 3 (because 1 and 2 are history) and full in phase 4. So expect new deliveries to only trickle April through June 2009. And, in my mind, and I have stated this before, the Moco makes less on a CVO Touring then on a regular Ultra. Hence the CVO bikes will be hit by the production cuts in full force. If you want one - get it NOW!

Ride safely,
Louis

If your dealer really gives a rats a$$ about you, the customer he will do a dealer locate and do an exchange. That's what my dealer did for me to expidite the order.
