I put the lowered HD rear shock on my '09 CUSE and while it was reported to lower the rear axle 3/4 of an inch to an inch, it seemed to lower the rider floor boards less than one-half inch.  And the ride seemed harsher but that could be improved by changing air pressure in the shocks.  Will have to experiment with that.  Did  not seem very cost effective for such a small change in height.  They cannot, I am told, lower the front on the triple tree and to change out the front shocks was reported to cost around $800.  I will pass on that, thank you.

I think lowering the rider by changing or modifying the seat is the best bang for the buck and lowers the rider the  most.

Good luck all.

I watched the service manager walk my bike along yesterday.  I doubt he goes 150 lbs on a good day.  It was so effortless.  I told him about the discussion on the forum and asked him if the guys are trained to walk a bike properly.  He just laughed at me and told me no.

I also got to see the easy way to show someone damage on a bike yesterday.  Just after I asked the service manager about walking the bikes around, a motorcycle cop pulled in on his bike.  He said the left muffler was falling off.  When the service manager went to bend down to look at it, the officer said, "Here, let's make this easy."  He just tipped the bike over and let it drop on the right engine guard.  After looking at the bike, he picked it back up.  I was talking to him while he was waiting for his repairs to be completed.  He told me that it was another officer's bike, that he got a kick out of abusing it, and he enjoys picking them back up.  Yes, he backed up the bike and lifted with the legs.  Anyway, there's our tax dollars at work...knock you Harley down so you can pick it back up.

I told him if he ever sees me tipping my bike over on purpose, just shoot me, as I've apparently completely lost my mind.

Finally the Progressive 440HD Shocks have arrived. Great service from one stop moto as recommended by Louis. Dreadful service by the UK postal service who informed me twice that they had been delivered before finally letting me know they had been held by customs awaiting a VAT payment!! Finally sorted that one and they have now arrived. Booked into dealership for fitting (they are very busy at the moment driving end of month sales so business is still good it would seem.
I will let you know how the ride height alters as soon as shes done....

Cheers

Yes lowering the seat is the best method if it works.  Doesn't change the ride dynamics.

New shocks fitted, now sit very comfortably and flat footed which is great and the ride in my opinion is even better. Just need to tweak the settings now to get it set up perfectly. Completed Advanced Riders course with Riders Edge in Wales which was really excellent and now set for a very enjoyable summer of riding. Great investment and ideal for the more vertically challenged amongst us.

I've got the 1" lower shocks off the Street Glide on now, but I'm still on tip toes.  Next step would be to lower the front, but I'm reluctant to do that.  The FLHTCSE was about that height, and I rode my friend's a lot.  Here in Scotland the roads are narrow and twisty, and you scrape the thing to bits on every corner.  Don't want that sort of height, as every time you go into a corner you end up tensing up and waiting for the scraping.  I'd be interested to sit on yours, or Louis' to see what the height is like for the even MORE vertically challenged shortarse that I am.

Who was your instructor at Rider's Edge?  (And what level did you get?)

I got the silver standard so next year we go for gold. Now mine has been lowered and I am flat footed at 5' 9" with a 30" inside leg,( you cant be shorter than that) (Louis was 6'8" last time we checked) the front end feels and looks fine and handles very well. I dont take corners too quickly so scrapping has not been an issue. All I need to do now is get the settings right as it does bottom out now and then on rougher roads, could do with Louis advise on that one.
Any time your in the area your welcome to give it a try.

Cheers

Can't I? I'm 5' 5½" with a 28" inside leg!  :o  I had no problem with the height of mu FLHTCUI, CUSE, or CUSE2 - just this thing is so much higher (and they claim it's the same seat height, hah!

I do enjoy fast riding so scraping is a BIG problem for me (see pic - that's the LEFT side of my <UNlowered!> CUSE2, not the easy-to-scrape right side!)

Yes, I thought you'd say Silver - they ALWAYS do that, no matter how good you are (thought they will do a bronze if you are poor). A sceptic would say that's so you'll spend money going back to try again....  Lasts for two years though, so don't go rushing back!  ;)   Who was your instructor?  (Oh, and you only get a discount from HD insurance if you have a Gold pass, regardless of what they tell you!)

You need a long weekend in Scotland, and while you're in the area......  :D

Relax, slow down a little or hope platform shoes come back into fashion ;D
The instructors name was Mike something (Ex Police Motorcycle Instructor) who told me you cant get gold on the first attempt but that may have been because I was crap :-X
Course and riding location was excellent though.
I think my Dad still has a pair of those 70,s style platforms do you want me to send them up or are you going to slow down and lower the springs?

Cheers

Yes, the course is indeed good.  But it's a racket - no reason why a good rider can't get gold on the first time if they are good enough. It's a plan to get you to come back and pay again!

They'd have to be tall platforms!  :D
